There's no quest. Just walk into his palace and give him a good spanking... :D

Oh and while you're at it, have a go at trapping his soul into Azura's Star - apparently it's possible, I've just never known of anyone doing it. 1000 pointer, supposedly, compared to a Golden Saint's 400 points...

I've trapped him before, I can't remember how much he was worth in azura's star, but it was sooooooo much more than anything (and probably everything) in morrowind. Of course now that you have a great soul, the items don't get any better and so you still end up with the same grade of enchantments...

Azura's Star with Vivec's soul should be...2500*1000=2,500,000 gold. Yum. The next most expensive thing in Morrowind is (I think) Wraithguard at a cool 500,000.

I'm not entirely sure how the whole enchant thing works yet - you couldn't even enchant a Daedric Tower Shield with anything more than you could with a Golden Saint's soul?

It depends on what kind of enchantment you are doing. If I remember right I think the daedric tower sheild has 150 enchant points. So: If you do a constant effect you are always limited by the 150, but if you are doing cast when used enchantment you are still limited by the 150: But the soul gem is used like a battery that you drain, so you have 400 energy points for the golden saint and 1000 for Vivec.

An example in action would be you want to enchant your sheild with a 100 point enchantment. Although it would depend how much you have in enchant: you could use the one with the golden saint 4 times, and the one with Vivec 10 times.

That's just a conceptual look at it, I hope I haven't confused you more. :)

Thanks very much - I think I understand. So for a Constant Effect, since there aren't charges as such, the soul doesn't matter as long as it's one that you can do Constant Effects with? But Vivec's soul would be great for a Cast When Strikes on a weapon, because you get more hits before the weapon runs out of charge, however the size of the enchantment is still limited by the number of slots on the weapon. Have I got this right yet?

Oh...and a Daedric Tower Shield has 225 slots, the most of any item in the game. You can get the stats from here... http://m0use.net/~uesp/morrow/hints/mwenchant.shtml

FYI

Vivec's soul in Azura's star is worth 5,000,000.

I just had to find out, so I killed him and then reloaded.

One thing that bugs me is that Golden Saints are worth so much compared to all the other creatures and NPCs. I had hoped that some of the "named" monsters would hold more value but they're all the same as the standard. Disappointing.

Y'know, I used to be the prime advocate of the "Kill Vivec" camp... after all, you can shortcut 95% of the main quest by killing him. After playing Tribunal, though, I just can't bring myself to off the old boy anymore.

I don't want to spoil the plot of tribunal, but suffice to say when it's over with Vivec's worldview is a bit changed. It's hard to kill someone who's actions you approve of, let alone feel sorry for.

Hrm?

My view of Vivec didn't change; but I've yet to talk to him directly and see if he has something new to say.

No one kills me in a past life and gets away with it.

He has new dialogue. But you can't get it til you've completed both the main quests.
