Tortured Souls mod, anyone?

Post by fable »

Has anybody tried the Tortured Souls add-on? The web page is very reticent about information. A few screens give the impression that it's well written, but I was curious regarding the number of new quests, new areas, new party NPCs, and game balance.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Spoilerish

Ah, do you mean the Desecration of Souls Mod found here? I have downloaded it and will be giving it a try later this week.

Spoilerish

No new NPCs AFAIK, they just made a few battles tougher with a pair of brothers in the sewers. Scripts from David Gaidar were used to "improve" the Mencar Pebblecrusher in the inn in Waukeen's Promenade.

No, though I'm curious about that one, too. If you check here, you'll find links to both Tortured Souls and Desecration of Souls listed. The first is described as a "larger module," the second as "smaller."

It's pretty good with a number of decent quests and story arcs, but it's nowhere near the size of TDD. Regardless, for the effort, it's a lot beter than many of the mods I've played and I'm generally pessimistic with them. ;)

It's worth a try.

@Bullions, thanks for the brief recap. Could you maybe expand upon that, a bit? What's the focus of the mod--action, dialog, items, etc? How is the writing? Does it fit seamlessly in with the rest of the game? Is it well-balanced?

Minor spoilers

Have not downloaded Tortured Souls as I read that Team BG have not ironed out the bugs in their forum.

As for Desecration of Souls, it's fun so far. Met the Hammer Brothers, a new group, and they were a blast. :)

That is, I blasted them to smithereens on my first try. :D :p

On my way to deal with the improved Mencar Pebblecrusher. Gameplay is pretty balanced so far and not so much by way of new quests. The focus is on the improved scripts which make enemies harder. The writing seems okay, no typos to speak of.

Highly recommended.

Hmm... as far as writing and the story goes, it fits okay with the game. I don't know which mods you've played thus far, but IMHO it's better written than most of the mods I've seen. The mod enhances the Yoshimo character (so he won't just be a predictable traitor), and adds another character for you (and him) to deal with, Kachiko. There are other miscellaneous romances (Valygar) and subquests, and a new dungeon. I won't give too much away. You'll have to play and experience it.

Oh by the way, I haven't encountered any bugs, but there are known issues in the mod so check the forums.

Wow, that sounds good. I have always wished there was a way to stop yoshi from (spoiler!) betraying you in Spellhold..
