Most Overrated Class

Post by Impaler987 »

Well, pretty self-explanatory; which class gets more praise than it deserves?

Let's see, I tend to think the Undead Hunter quite overrated. I think it's actually the weakest paladin kit by far once levels start to rise.

Single-class assassin is quite overrated as well. Except for the awesome backstab, the assassin is rather poor in combat from what I've played. He is limited to 1 attack per round, plus he has a hard time actually hitting anything. He's not a fighter, or even a swashbuckler. Now, dual him to fighter, and things become different ...

But the Kensai's the worst offender by far, though. Seriously, I really don't see what all the fuss is about behind this class. And yes, I've played them before, so I do know what I'm talking about. I don't like the dual-classes, either.

Archer and Monk are slightly overrated, IMO, but they're still pretty good.

The others on that list are worthy of the praise they get, as far as I'm concerned.

i think the undead hunter is by far the best pally kit....

the major difference between undead and chavalier is the inability to use ranged weapons....the chavalier has immunity to fear and charm, but helm of charm protection and remove fear negates that advantage...

and i think the inquisitor is just not a good pally kit at all, and gets my vote...

due to one and only one spell, the spell that more than makes up for the inq dispell and true sight abilities...

draw on holy might, that spell makes the undead hunter and chavalier so much better than the inquisitor its not funny...with str belt, you can achieve crom feyr str of 25, and use holy avenger....and inq dispell is very nice, but which would you rather take, a single dispell per round, or mutiple whacks with holy avenger, with +7 or so bonus damage due to the str belt and stacked draw on holy might? each hit doing its own dispell...hehehhehe.....

now ranged weapons are not that great to some people who prefer meelee...but think of this, firetooth or heavy crossbow of searing loaded with plain non magical arrows is the best mage disrupter ever...will punch thru prot from magic weapons, and the elemental damage will go right thru stoneskin, and disrupt the mage....much much better than wiz slayer disrupt...and a chavalier cannot use this nasty trick...

A cavalier (and anyone else for that matter) can do the same thing with Angurvadal. And Purifier/Angurvadal is one nasty dual-wield combo.

Quite a few mages that cast prot from magical weapons do this together with prot from normal missiles...
I am currently trying out the Monk solo and so far so good... a little low in HP's perhaps but good AC.
I have soloed an Assassin and it is a pwoerful class due to tha backstab and use any item.
I also think Undead Hunter is the weakest Paladin kit. Cavalier is better. Straight kensai is weak solo but not in a group...spirit armour, chaotic commands etc. Besides I haven't seen that many people prasing the straight kensai here.... the Undead hunter however.
That will be my choice.
Swashbucklers are just soo cool.

angurvadal will be stopped cold by prot from magic weapons...and yes bruce, i have noticed a lot of smarter mages doing that very same very annoying thing....prot from normal missiles and prot from magic weapons...but after a bit of experimentation, i noticed if you breach the mage, he might cast prot from magic weapons next round, but will never recast prot from normal weapons....

yeah, i also think the extra bonus against demons and other worldly monsters is great, but its really i guess a matter of play preference...am i willing to sacrifice ranged weapons for some extra bonuses against demons? i might in tob, but not in soa....i simply prefer the more versatile undead hunter, instead of the locked in meelee chavalier...and quite frankly, the immunity to hold sounds better than charm immunity and fear immunity....a chavalier must use the ring of free action, or arbane's sword to get the same hold immunity, but a undead hunter needs merely to have a mage cast remove fear, or use dragonslayer sword, in dual wield with purifier or some other good weapon, and keep the bonus against dragons...hehehheh, and helms of charm are incredibly common....and level drain immunity allows me to open up a amulet slot(amulet of power), while sacrificing a helm slot, and there are more very powerful amulets in the game, especially with item upgrade, than there are powerul helms....brilliance and vailators helm....

amulet of illmather, amulet of seldarine, amulet of cheetah speed, greenstone amulet....

I voted Swashbuckler, only because a fighter/thief can do everything a swashie can do and then some.
