Party Formation Advice Needed

Post by renyu »

okay first i noe i asked this before, but i did not get the answers i wanted, so i'm asking it again

first - my party
Me (pure cleric)
Minsc
Jaheira
Valygar
Jan
Aerie

An important point to note is that i just came out of underdark, so if i want to pick up anybody now, they should suck in terms of experiance and levels

now, i have been advised to remove jaheira and valygar for mazzy and keldorn

jan is definitely going out for imoen, although imoen sux becos she did not go through underdark with me

i have no high level mage power unless u count aerie

jaheira will be dropped, but who to replace her, i don't know - (mazzy or keldorn?)

mazzy is good fighter and archer but keldorn can use HA

valygar is a decent fighter dual wielding two magical katanas

minsc dual wields two katanas too (celestial fury)

i am waiting to use crom faeyr, meanwhile using a club (magical of course)

aerie is using a sling and mace of disruption

imoen is using????

some help again please
i think i misssed most of it the other time
*8^-)

IMHO drop Jaheira for Nalia. You aready have two NPC fighters, plus your main char can be called a fighter too.As for exp, summon some pit fiends and kill them.If you want even more exp, just keep yourself and who ever needs (Nalia) exp in your party then summon some.Don't do this in a town!! PS Tell everybody else to wait right there. That way you won't have to run everybody down.

Undead Hunter (me)
Minsc (Boo is my favorite character)
Anomen (good second line fighter and healer)
Yoshimo (good thief, great archer, of course you do know what happens half-way through?)
Jaheira (strictly for healing)
Nalia (her chirpy do-gooder attitude was annoying but she was a decent mage)

I chose hammers as a speacilty and boy did that pay off! Usually my character and Minsc both wielded the magical hammers. Ranged weapons worked very well in most encounters, especially if you can get the first shot in against mages who are too far for your meleers to reach. They are toast after that. My character carried most of the load but isn't that what the Player character is for?

Madison: if you read his post carefully, you could have read that he has already gone through the Underdark. Therefor, no Yoshimo.

Stop pointing out the failings of others Maurice and go back to spamming like the rest of us Image. Great party: Me, Minsc, Jaheria, Keldorn, Mazzy, Jan.
-good distance, good magic, Jan's lockpicking, Jeheria's cleric skills. try this one and see if it floats your boat.

Myself, I love a mage-dominated party. Who needs fighers? I have Minsc and Jaheira for front line fighters, Me(awesome know-all-spells specialist mage), Imoen, Nalia, Aerie. Jaheira is virtually unhittable with armor class -8, and has boots o haste and cloak of spell turning. Virtually a juggernaut alone. While the enemies hack at Jaheira in vain, my mages cast ultra powerful spells like Abi-Dhalzim's Horrid Wilting. When that fails, summoning hordes of skeleton warriors and aerial servants makes for lots o fun.
You need at least one high level mage in your party or you'll get burned, and Aerie doesn't count. Imoen is the best because she gets extra spells without being a specialist mage.

Does all of you pick up Valygar during a small period of the game at least, to do the sphere quest? or do you just skip it when you have the other characters instead??

most of us have picked up Valygar at least for the PS quest, if only because you get some rockin' items and great exp. from it.

Well, my pc's a mage, so it was Planar Sphere or bust. Plus the quest itself is awesome, what with traveling to a demon plane and all. Some nice baddies too.
