A good bow

Post by rnrules »

Hey guys, I need to be able to find some good bow, but so far the best I've found is a bone-mold. I don't like using a permenant conjuration, so does anybody now where to find a good, real bow?

Thanx

You want a good bow? Right. Go to Ghostgate, and the Tower of Dawn. There should be a named ordinator there called Ralyn Othravel. Looks like someone's already nicked his helmet, now it's time to nick his bow. If you have high enough sneak or a lot of patience, you can pickpocket him for it, or you can mercilessly slaughter him and pry it from his cold dead fingers. (Guess which approach I prefer :D )

I'm not sure where you can find a Daedric Long Bow, but they do the same damage. One thing you should consider is that you could enchant your Bonemold Long Bow - it has almost 4 times the slots of a Daedric bow and almost 6 times the slots of the above bow.

Always believed the best bow in the game is the Bound Longbow - the same parameters, without weigth and +10 Marksmanship.

Only having it for 60 seconds at a time is quite annoying though...

Ooh  Can you enchant a bow with Constant Effect Bound Longbow? The spell can be bought from someone in Balmora Mages' Guild...I'll have to try that one sometime.

Early versions of game allowed you to cheat (change weapon, put the bound item on the ground and wait while spell wears out, then pick up and use for ever). I've heard it has been changed with some patch, though.
However, it's not necessary 60 sec - you may make spell/item with another time. I have had rings/amulets with much longer lasting items. The last i made bounds both bow and gauntlets and raises Agility by 10 more (in total 20 Agility bonus) - all for 60 secs (excuisite ring or amulet needed, of course).
The marksmanship is pretty useless and expensive skill in the game anyway, so i haven't paid much attention to it. The item i have just in case and to gain some additional advancement points (my last protagonist is nightblade)

Firstly, I'd call that risiculous cheating, which is why I didn't acknowledge its existence above. And secondly, doesn't everyone have the latest patch?

I agree though - Marksmanship is crap. You can hardly hit anything with or without it, as far as I can tell...

Cool, thanks for the help, and just for all of you talking about bound items: It gets Very annoying to put on the ring that will conjure up the bow, and then switch to it. (I once had a constant effect on an almost entire suite of bound armor! It was pretty cool but you can't echant any of it!) So, anyway thanks for the help guys!

If you really wish to be marksman, stick to stars and darts.
Missiles are the weight enough, you'd be strong enough if you'd care to add also a bow. Besides, you have to have some source of missiles, too. Good missiles aren't cheap, and one can never recover all of them.

I agree. There is no skill that is unfruitful at a high level. Even skills like unarmored and alchemy become godlike at level 100.
Yeah they was dancin' and singin' and movin' to the groovin'

My favorite has always been the bound longbow (constant effect on a ring). Even with the patch, the thing somehow becomes permanent after a while.
There's nothing a little poison couldn't cure...

What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

What about the Shadow Bow

I haven't found it yet, but it's an "artifact" isn't it?

What about Crossbows? I have got the one from the Razor Hole which serves my purpose early on, however I would like to think there are superior ones later on.

I've found two or three in my past games. You should be able to stumble across one in a Dwemer ruin or perhaps a smugglers cave. Unfortunately (or maybe not so unfortunately) all the good bows and crossbows in this game have to be found via questing. Start saving all the crossbow bolts you find and stash them somewhere safe. Loot all the fighter supply chests of bolts whether you need them or not - that's the only way they will eventually get replenished. BTW - the Dwemer Xbow seems to damage creatures that can only be injured with enchanted weapons just fine. Still it never hurts to throw some dippy, even if otherwise useless, enchantment on a weapon just to be safe.
Yeah, I had a look around and it looks like random loot or in the middle of some dungeon near the Telvanni stronghold...Oh, can you use crossbow bolts with bows and vice versa?

Dippy enchantment is right...a huge 5 slots :p

Thanks, I prefer the idea of a crossbow, more stealthy :)

@rnrules, I just found this on another forum, I'll have to try it out but it looks like it does the job...
All right bus this is what you do to get a Daedric Longbow without going into shrines or whatever. Find the rope bridge that goes from Balmora to Pelagiad(sp) over the Odai River. Walk straight forward to the hills, you will see an Ebony Mine, walk in and right away walk out. Go to Vivec:St Olms Canton, go to the haunted manor, go downstairs and find Dram Bero. Talk with Dram about the ebony mine (I think it is near the bottom of his conversation options) he will eventually give you a choice for a weapon, choose the marksman weapon and Bam you got a D.Bow

One of those hidden nuggets in the game. Missed this on my first two times thru the game and would have probably missed it this time without the hint. Thanks.
No problem :) - seems like you can get one of a selection of Daedric weapons off him. What choices did you have? Was there anything that you don't get, for example, from clearing out the Dren Plantation? I would've done the quest but I can't be bothered to walk that far :D

Oh, and if you've installed the Area Effect Arrows official plugin from Bethesda, Andaren the Fletcher on the bottom floor of the Foreign Quarter Waistworks has, along with a damn fine selection of arrows, a Daedric Long Bow and a Dwarven Crossbow. Personally, I'm inclined to give Bethesda a slap on the wrist for making the two best marksman weapons way too easy to find, but hey - it's official ;)
