How much intelligence for enchant mark/recall?
How much intelligence for enchant mark/recall?
How high does my intelligence need to be to have a reasonable chance (50%) to suceed at enchanting an item with mark or recall. My attempts always fail.
What type of enchantment?
Intelligence and luck should be pretty high. I wouldn't actually waste a soul gem on creating those enchantments. There are plenty of amulets in the game w/ those enchantments.
If you don't have the amulets, buy the spell. If you have no spellcasting ability try finding scrolls.
Basically, enchanting is very hard at low skill level, intelligence, and luck. If you really stuck on creating the enchantment, create some enchanted clothing that increase intelligence and that increases luck as much as possible just for the time it takes to cast a couple spells and do the enchantment.
Don't forget to save before each attempt.

To enchant an exquisite amulet with 100 points Open it cost about 30,000. I love the result though....

There was mentioning that boosting also personality (besides necessary inteligence and luck, of course) raised probability of success very considerable. In my praxis it appears quite right. At about 1000+ intelligence, 400+ personality and 400+ luck (praise to alchemy) i'm hardly ever failing (save most complex constant effect enchantments what requires some more intelligence). Enchantment skill does matter, of course.
As for items you might find, you have to, it's first. And, the second, they are mostly amulets - the weight ten times more than rings.

How fast does enchanting items successfully raise your enchant skill as opposed to using enchanted items? I've been paying to get mine done, because I don't like wasting soul gems and I have huge surpluses of cash anyway...

Hmm, I'm pretty happy with my current build, but I'm starting to wish I'd put Alchemy as a major instead of Enchant. The only effect it's having is fewer charges/use, which is nice, but my potion-making sucks and I can't do that at a shop
I also can't be bothered with making items that boost my INT for short periods of time, just to be able to use a skill with any kind of regularity.

I found the best way to develop enchanting skill is recharging. First, you never (or almost never) fail, the charge goes up, the question is only how much. The second, it does not really matter what soul and what gem you use (it is important regarding possible maximum of charge points might be restored, of course). So run a circle hunting cliff racers and other lifieforms (and trapping their souls, of course) and then sit down and recharge items you've been using in the process, repeat if necessary. Trader in Tel Branora will be deliriously happy, too

My way to enchant even constant effect items works and is cost effective
Okay, first you need a decent alchemy & enchant skill (20+ will probably work, but if it doesn't get some more training) so get those skills up to there by using the methods described throughout the last posts.
Next, Get a decent set of alchemy gear (quite a good set can be stolen from the mages guild in Caldera, up in the tower.)
Then, using the teleportation the mage guild provides, travel to Sadrith Mora. Go down a staircase and go into the imperial cult place.
Last, Buy 30 of each: Ash Yams, and Bloats. Make about ten potions using these ingriedients. Then use those potions (you're intelegence will go up, therefore improving your alchemy skill temporarily) Then, make 20 more potions, these should be improved greaty since you just boosted your intelligence. When you have the last 20 potions made, gulp them down and enchant.
Note: This is very approximate, don't whatsoever attempt the last step without saving, cause if you fail, that would suck. Also, make sure to check if your intelligence actually goes up. This has worked for me very well, but since stealing loot and selling it is so easy, I only do this when I'm in the early game.
Good enchanting, and remember to save!
