My Summer Requiem

Post by Tamerlane »

Not surprisingly whilst many of you are planning to enjoy a White Christmas or at least a cold one. I’ve been re-acquainting myself with the wonderfully sunny outdoors, the stubborn owl is back, or at least something is hooting outside my window late at night… The animals have been tolerable most of the time, although I did come across a sea snake just recently. One of them took a liking to me, tried to wrap itself around my arm. Curious little guys, if they weren’t the most venomous animals in the world I would of enjoyed my time with them. To say I was a little bit worried would have been an understatement; I tried rather pathetically to remain calm. Thankfully they have a very small attention span, or I didn’t look threatening or tasty enough. So I won’t be SCUBA diving for a while now, having redeveloped a phobia of nasty sea creatures. The surf is as unforgiving as ever, as I’m in the process of learning how to surf (again…) and lastly the wonderful animosity between surfers and boarders hasn’t died down at all during the winter break. :D

Away from the beach, things have been interesting too; I met a wonderful girl just before summer broke out. She seems to have quite an evil streak, which makes every social function a treat to invite her to. We naturally have plans to share an enjoyable summer together. I’m also taking a trip down south soon, just me and the guys and we plan to climb a few mountains and camp out in a national park. It’s going to be a long trip, 1000km down and back and we might even pop into a coastal town and meet up with a few of the local surfers. Will try to remember to post some pictures, I don’t think a picture of me has even been placed onto SYM. Unless Georgi found a scanner or Odie got his fixed, I’ll try to remember to post mine first. ;)

Must run, have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone. :)

Cheers, mate!

...been some time since we had a get-together during our fave time-slot with Odie, Eery, and Beldin.

Well, Odie is off to Brazil to enjoy the beautiful mountains and rich forests... ;) :D

... hope your plans with her would end up more than just a summer to remember. ;)

Have fun my friend and Happy Holidays too. :)

Have fun, Tammy - beaches and...women that rhyme with aforementioned word, in no way meant in a derogatory sense ( ;) ), I can't think of a better way to spend Christmas... :)

I would say that you have more of an assonance than a rhyme...anyway...

I didn't know how many people would have to run to dictionary.com again...my attempts to use the word "erudite" met with some consternation (that means difficulty :p )

Oh, and it rhymes too...but if I used it in a poem, I'd be forced to shoot myself :D

Hey guys just got back from my road trip. Oh boy it sure was a long one at that. We must of covered around 1000km in the worst possible weather too. The first day we had to contend with a long drive, 7 hours spent in a stifling 46C. Not the best way to kick off the trip, and the fact that the air con was speeding up the fuel consumption meant we had to use it rather sparingly. We eventually reached the Stirling Ranges National Park, after clocking almost 400 km on the metre. 3 hours overdue I should add, but we weren’t going to ignore the impact of driver fatigue so we stopped whenever we reached a town or every hour. Depending on which was more appropriate. Prior to reaching our campsite, we took what we thought to be a “scenic” drive along an unsealed road, in which we passed signs stating “crest”, or “loose gravel”, every 5 kilometres. The road unfortunately was too narrow for us to turn around, so we had to drive for 43km along a track that I assume even a rally driver would avoid if he or she could.

The campsite was wonderful, a lot better then I expected considering that we were so isolated from even the nearest town that the site had to store its own water supply and you could pretty much throw your mobile phone away as there was no coverage at all. The next day, we set off to climb the tallest peak in the ranges, a mountain that at 1073m was an imposing site situated in what is effectively a flat region. Climbing it wasn’t the most enjoyable thing I’ve ever done. The pace the other guy’s set was frightening to say the least, we were jogging and jumping up that damn rock, to the horror of the other climbers that we passed. It was 44C that day, according to one of the car’s thermometers, but due to the mists and rain that we encountered near the top you could be forgiven for assuming that it was winter. The view at the top was breath taking, I guess you could call it the highlight of the climb. Although meeting a hawk at the top was very cool. It left before I could get a picture of it though :(

I’ll write the rest, and pop on the photos when I’m not as tired now. Lack of sleep has just caught up with me…

Glad you're back!
Good to hear you had fun too.

To bad you didn't get a picture of that hawk though, I'd love to see one myself. :)

Its only temporary, more plans are being made as we speak

As for the hawk, yeah I'm still kicking myself about that one. I stared at it for a couple of minutes before realising that it could make a decent pic...

Hmmm, well this hostel here has a scanner, maybe I'll try and use it tomorrow... :D BTW Odie's scanner isn't broken, he just doesn't know how to use it. ;)

Told you this continent was full of nasty horrible things that kill you, Tammy. :p I haven't bumped into many yet though... And I'm still annoyed that you didn't pop into Narrogin when you were passing so close by.

The weather down here on the south coast is more like an English than an Aussie summer. It was 26 degrees today, going to be 29 tomorrow, and we all sit outside by the BBQ in our warm jumpers shivering! I ate BBQed kangaroo though, yay! :D

You were in Williams, that's like 15km from Narrogin at the most, and the road goes south from there too :p

Oh, we all make mistakes. Can't we take this argument to a tavern. I favour my chances in there. ;)
