Ranger/rogue

Post by Bruce Lee »

What do you think of the ranger/rogue multiclass... say a halfling rogue that adds two ranger levels.. should be a good combo eh?
Dual wielding daggers with weapon finesse. Halflings make for the best thiefs IMO, and they are cool.

I am currently playing in one of my sessions a human ranger/rogue. He just rocks!
If you go for a halfling, well, even better!!! Go for it.
But, why not go fighter/thief.
As a ranger, you get, more skill points than a fighter
and favorite enemies and spells. But if you plan on only taking
two ranger levels, well, no spells, not much with the fav.enemies
there, only a few more skill points, ah! but you do get
ambidext. & 2 weapon fighting.
But with 2 level fighter you can just get those feat anyway,
and from then on many many more feats. So mabye
1 lvl in ranger, and all the res thief & fighter.
That what i'm going to do anyway.

No, because halfling have fav.class rogue.
So, go on and read the rules for multi classing and you
will see.
As long as you keep 2 class at 1 lvl apart only, then all is good.
But is you are not sure, then as a i said, go for rogue/fighter only.

You are right! Ranger 1, fighter 2, rogue rest seems like a very good choice indeed. This is what I am going to do.
I picked halfling cause they are good thieves and cool aswell. So I will be dual-wielding daggers and using darts. Any tips on feats?
As soon as I can I'll pick improved two-weapon fighting.
I might need iron will, improved initiative is always good. Maybe power attack and cleave... with sneak attack chances are you might fell a foe?
Thoughts?

'cause i'm playing the same, i've got the same dilema.
If you want to go full on rogue, then stick with ranger1, fighter2
and the rest rogue.
But if you need that extra kick, then fighter4, renger 5, and the rest rogue. But this will take time and patients. fighter 4 for 4 feats, ranger 5 for 2 fav.enemies and 1st lvl spells( some are usefull) and a animal companion. But this takes time.
Now if you stick with fighter1 and ranger2 you can smartly set
you character up for a good prestige class, that's if you have the
prestige class book. If you have only the basic books then look at the DM's handbook for shadowdancer.
About feats. Is you fancy fighting with ranged weapons have a
look at all the (precise shot, point black shot, rapid shot...)
or you can go very nimble( dodge, mobility, combat reflexes,
spring attack), spring attck is nice, have a look an this!!!

Is it possible to sneak attack with ranged weapons? Could be better than two-weapon fighting I guess... and then I could go for spring attack aswell... seems useful. But spring attack would be even more useful if you were a monk with fast movement.
Shadowdancer looks cool indeed. Aren't the prestigeclasses a little overpowered?
What character generator program do you use, mine does not have prestigeclasses in it.

...YES, as long as it is with in 30ft.

...Don't worry, although you get one attack only, 'cause your using 2weapon, that's all you need, maybe in the future improved 2 weapon fighting

...NO

...I don't use a character generator, it's all down on paper dude!!!
