Early Problem
My map is blank. When I am outside...I've been to the tax office, been released, bought armor and weapons and climbed the lighthouse in the opening area. Still nothing on my map.
Also, it doesn't seem like my SAVE option is working...I get an error message..and when I click YES to continue...I get the error message over and over. When I click NO, the game shuts down. I can QUICKSAVE at this time, although it tells me something about being unable to reset textures after clearing textures. Any idea?

First off, what video card do you have? Is it on the supported list? Do you have the latest drivers for it?
When you uninstalled, did you go in and delete the Bethesda Softworks folder and reboot before reinstalling the game? Did you d/l and install the latest patch?
The forum here is primarily concerned with game-play and, while we're a friendly bunch and will gladly help with technical problems if we're able, you should check out the forums over at http://www.elderscrolls.com - they have an entire section devoted just to troubleshooting. Remember when asking for tech assistance to include info regarding your set-up.
Welcome to Morrowind.

Why don't you mention what Windows are you running?
It seems to me that your system just does not do some things Morrowind is expecting it to.
If you're in 2000 or 98, just right-click on the screen outside of any icon. On the panel appeared choose the tab "Settings". There should be a button mareked as "Advanced". Try find the tab "Adapter" and you'll see what adapter windows are guessing you have. For 98'th the monitor settings may be important as well. Besides, it may very well be you just do not have a proper driver, nowdays it happens often enough with Win'98 because it knows nothing about most of cards currently in the market. Is your box completely fresh? You should have some disk (floppy or more probably CD) with drivers for your videocard. If your box is old you should see if there might be fresher video card drivers (it doesn't matters if other programs are running smoothly, Morrowind treats your box rather hard and in ways other programs even do not try to).
And the last but not least - don't you have a friend with good knowledge in computers?

Alternately, right-click on the "My Computer" icon, choose "Properties". This will show what version of Windows you're running, your processor and the amount of RAM you have.
Click the "Device Manager" tab, then dlick on the + sign next to "Display Adaptor" - this should show what video card you've got.
elderscrolls.com is frequently and mysteriously offline/unavailable - just keep trying back til you get thru.
Here's a direct link to their forums, which was up whien I just tried it http://www.elderscrolls.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php

My apologies for seeking help so I, too, can enjoy the game. Guess this will go down as another waste of money (like Daggerfall) where I put the game aside for 2-3 years until I buy a new computer.
Fairmaiden: my research on this and other sites suggests that an unsupported video card is probably the root of our evil. Use the link given above to the main Elder Scrolls site and do a search for video cards or blank map. That should pull up a thread that gives the supported cards. Very limited...only 6 or 7 cards are supported. My card meets all the criteria; 32MB, DirectX 8.1 compatable..etc...etc... but not one of the "name brands". So I guess they did specific programming on that. Really doesn't make sense as the World Map works...you'd think that if the video card was the problem, then neither map would work.
Overall, very
about this game.
PS: Fairmaiden, I'm not sure about the type of video card you are using; I have an EliteGroup/SiS 305. Found a recently updated driver on their site and downloaded it. Nothing changed in the game. Still not getting the local map.

RC - Head from Balmora towards Ft. Moonmoth. After crossing the river, turn left at the road going north (about half-way between the river and the fort). A little ways up it, there will be a fork to the right going uphill, take it. It leads to a huge metal bridge. Cross the bridge and you will see the ruins to the right of the road. The entrance is a large globular thingy - it will display a label when you walk up to it. Look around for the switch to open it - the guy at the fighter's guild who sent you for the box should have told you what to look for.
You might want to grab the TES downloadable map - do a search to get the link. It's searchable, just choose a location name from a dropdown list and it will show you where it is. Nice zoom in/out feature and you can see the roads/paths. Have to exit the game to use it, tho.

There is usually some kind of compass direction given when an NPC or whatever tells you where to find something in the outlying areas.
I usually head straight in that compass direction leaving the roads/paths behind and am most of the time able to find what I'm looking for, (although sometimes it takes a while).
