killing NPCs?

Post by Krysalyn »

if you wanted to play an evil aligned group, do you get experience for killing some of the NPCs?

I assume that some of them are off limits due to the storyline, but many might not be necessary after you complete the quests they assign you... can you complete the quests, get your reward, and then tick them off somehow (failed pickpocket?) to get them to attack you?

Sure you can. It's a bit risky though, I don't know what npc's you shouldn't kill. And I don't know if there's an 'Arkanis Gath'-type of protection in IWD2. Was there in IWD1? What happened if you killed Arundel, for instance?

I don't think anything happened, but you were probably screwed if you planned to continue the game. In IwDII, the game will end (similar to the whole party dying) if you kill Nickademus before your done with him. Also, if you kill that Yuan-ti priestess (can't recall her name) outside Dragon's Eye, you won't be able to enter. In fact, there are a lot of fights in the game that wont let you leave the area until they are finished. Overall, the game is pretty good about letting you know when you screw up, but I would make sure I knew when I was done with an NPC before killing him off.

I think a friend told me that he once got a message that he had killed a character critical to the completion of the storyline, or something like that, and that he would have to restart or go back to the last saved game...

I would probably use a walkthrough or guide to see who was needed and who wasnt, and when I was done with some of them, and then maybe see if I could kill them all after they werent needed anymore... with an evil-aligned party, of course, and just for fun... (saving frequently just in case...)

I have heard that some of the NPCs carry decent stuff on their persons... can all of that stuff be pickpocketed as well, or would you have to kill them to get it?

I received this message after I killed Nickademus (he caught me stealing from him :D ) I had to reload :)
