Monks & Tob

Post by pip »

It appears that monks draw from the sme ability pool that other high level warriors draw from in Tob.
Those warrior abilities (in Tob) seem to offset the specil bilities that monks get in shadows of Amn (stunning blow, quivering palm).
Now all other high level warrior clsses are able to get abilities that is similar to the monks abilities. (stunning opponents & killing them with one blow, magic resistance.)
Do any one know of any abilities that monks get in Tob that other warrior classes do not get?
Also will monks movement rates; AC; and damage of 1d20 with natural weapons improve in Tob?

Monk's AC improves 6 times at upper levels (21,24,27,30,35 & 40th lvl). They also become equivalent (with unarmed attacks)to +4 weapons at 25th lvl.

They really are uber-characters. I would just rather play a fighter dualed to a mage though.

Thanks for the info. It still seems that they have toned down monks at higher levels. At 25th level most other warriors will have great weapons and I read(+5) weapons will be much more common in Tob.
In addition it appears that they do not get any special high level powers exclusive to their warrior class (monk).
Has any one heard differently?

They pick from same pool as fighters- none unique to their class. Their MR is capped somewhere in the 70s. I think they are still the uber class of TOB.

You are right, +5 weapons are very prevalent. Although most of them to need to be upgraded from a lower version of the weapon, so will take a little adventuring before all of them become +5. The nice thing is there are +5 weapons in virtually every weapon slot - except katanas I believe - so it doesn't matter which slot you pick, there is a +5 weapon for you. I just went through the guide quick and found 19 NEW +5 or better weapons.

That'll be great for Korgan. The best axes so far have been +3. Don't get me wrong, these are great weapons and very effective most of the time. That is until you need a +4 or better to hit (not naming names :D ).

The axe that Korgan can get is GREAT!! I am tempted to pick him even though I am good. He won't be the best fighter in the game anymore - thanks to new NPC - but with the new best axe he will be a killing machine.

Thanks for the information Drezden. It appears that you got TOB already. Still waiting for the expansion in Boston.

Hmmm.. I had finished the shadows of Amn game with a monk as the protaganist, and then started the game over with a sorceror in preparation for TOB. I had a great party all set up two weeks ago, (entering spellhold).
The computer had a major problem and everthing had to be erased. I got the computer up 3 days ago. So I am trying to make a decision on which character would be the most worthwhile character to invest in for TOB. I will probably invest in a sorceror again to take into TOB. Or perhaps I should wait for TOB for the Wild Mage Kit? Any vouchers for the Wild Mage class? Why or Why not?
