Taunting question

Post by Straydog »

Just how much taunting you have to do to make someone attack?
I have tried, and dropped their disposition to zero, still nothing.
Or is it dependant of your skill? I am trying to make the Camonna thugs to attack me, but they don´t. Skill is now 49.

If their meter gets to 0 and you still haven't gotten the red 'good-bye', try bribing them with 1000 gold to get their meter back up to 100 and start the taunt process again. This has worked for me. You might have to do it a couple of times, tho.

Save before doing this in case it doesn't work, so you won't be out the $.

... and when I look at you I think, if I were a psychopath and we were standing on an extremely high cliff above a pounding surf that would drown out your scream ... well ... you know ...

If you have the skill a Frenzy spell should also do the trick although I've not tried it yet myself.
Seem to recall it being Illusion and that is a spell line I don't do much in untill I got some "spare time to practice".

Crap! Well, back to practice then. Maybe I have to admire them up a bit, and then start again, though smith is at 0, and no save nearby. *sigh* Gotta do him the oldfashioned way.

Put the Frenzy Humanoid on a ring or an amulet (or on couple of them) with fair amount and short time (i guess 30-40 pts for 10 secs or even less should do fine). Even with professional enchanter it wouldn't be that expensive and they do stack (even if cast repeatedly from the same item). Get attitude down to zero and when you are failing badly quit the conversation and start to cast. So it worked for me, at least.

I recently had the same problem with the Camonna thugs and couldn't effectively taunt them or do anything magically.

So I just murdered them all and paid the bounty - it cost me 4,000 septims/drakes or thereabouts.

Unfortunately this way they all come to each other's rescue so you have to fight them all at once.

@Fairmaiden

Yup, hard situation, not to mention you have to dodge all the guards. I was lucky, only had to exit three times to heal.
Then I sneaked into fort, and reported to Varro, who cleared my name. Good that local forts seem to be made by lowest bidder and they have higher cliffs over them, so you can jump and sneak in. :D :p

For taunting, just get their disposition up to somewhere around 60. Then taunt them until it gets down around 40. Then bribe them again, so their disposition goes up to about 60, rinse and repeat. Even with a relatively low Speechcraft you will be able to bribe with only 10 gold, and succeed in your taunts enough to get them to end the dialogue. Usually it's 4 or 5 times you need to succeed at taunting. And when they attack you and you kill them, you get all your gold back! Brilliant. I know bribe/taunt/bribe/taunt sounds stupid, but it does actually work.

I'll give that method a try as I rarely get a taunt success.

What do people who are successfully intimidated do?

BTW, you just had to have Divine Itervention to get here ;)

Taunt is only effective when it succeeds. A failed taunt lowers their disposition but doesn't make them attack.

Taunt to near zero then bribe them back up. Three successful taunts in a row will make them attack, but if you stick with it long enough, the many non-consecutive taunts also work (and your speechcraft will improve.)

I generally don't get them too near to zero, because then it becomes very hard to bribe them back up with any consistency :)
