Sarevok looks weird

Post by 666_SALEM_666 »

while i was checking some pics of ToB down at ign I caught a glimpse of Sarevok's portrait.

to be honest, it wasn't anything i expected. he looks like a bald dude with glowing eyes and some blue lightning stuff in the background. i'd thought that he'd look the same as in BG1 with all the armor on him.
if you drink and drive, you're a bloody idiot.

but if you drink and drive and make it home safely, then you're a bloody legend!

Here's a quote from Dave Gaider of BioWare:

<STRONG>Yeah, I agree, Sarevok's old avatar did look awesome...and for quite a while we considered trying some way of keeping it. Trouble is, the old avatar had only the 1 armor type and only 1 weapon animation (for his two handed sword)...we would have had to have pretty much started all over from scratch to make him a new avatar. And to include all the armor/weapon variations would have hogged up a LOT of time.

There was a brief flirtation with the idea of making him restricted to his old armor, but that sounded a bit much like Vhaillor...and besides, what if you wanted to dual him to a mage or thief?

It might have been a nice thought, but in the end, using the fighter avatar gives the player more versatility with him. The enemy animations were never really meant to be used as party member animations, so that was basically that.

I think Sarevok's portrait looks cool, but I still wish he had his armor.
Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

I will probably release a patch once I get TOB so anybody that wants to use his old animation can, I know I will be using it. Unfortunetly Iv had trouble getting a copy of TOB so far.

Also I was going to edit the Bams for him so his appearance could use other weapons, but it appears the version of bamworks I am using is not compatible with his animations...Will post further when I find out more info.

I think its a pity that they've given him such a weird looking portrait. Its all very well saying he deserves one because he's a child of Bhaal, but the PC doesn't have such a weird looking portrait (unless you chose Jan's or the Half-Orc...By the way which portrait does Jan use if you use his?) does he/she?

:(
