Sarevok as a mage?
Sarevok as a mage?
Hey, I was just thinking about party balance and all that, and how much I want to take Sarevok in TOB ( coming out TODAY!!!! ), but how I need Aerie for a mage, and then, I had a weird ( why is weird spelled e before i? Isn't it " i before e except after c"? ) idea. Isn't Sarevok's intelligence 18? What do you guys think about dualing him to mage? I know hes already a 16th level fighter, but my other party members could gaurd him until he gains the experience back to be a 16th level mage. ( And with all the Uber-monsters in TOB, wont he gain the first 16 quckly? )
That way, I get a good mage, and eventually, a kick-ass mage that can wear armor and wield two-handed swords.
So what do you guys think?

Not as a Fighter/Mage, but I think that.... oh, crap. I thought that once you gained the old level, you could use all the abilities of the old class, and for the fighter that would mean armor. Hmmmm, I could always use my elven chain +1, and thats at least decent. Aerie has some and I could take it when I give her the boot. What about that?
As an aside, does anyone know what level Sarevok will be able to achieve with the ex. cap?
And, what about the gaining back of levels? Do you guys think that he will gain them back quikcly enough to be effective?
Maybye in TOB there will be new, better spellcaster armor avaliable ( not an invitation for spoilers, plz! ) .

So Sarevok cannot be dualled? Or can he regain his Fighter abilities if he duals to Thief?
IMO the "transitionary phase" of dual Fighter-Mages is not hard at all. The first few levels are gained by just reading scrolls, and any Mage with 120+ Hit Points doesn't need Stoneskin all hours of the day. By the time you get to level 7, you're already pretty powerful/useful even though your old class is still inactive.

yeah, I guess, but Sarevok wont be able to gain enough levels by the game's end to be useful as a mage, so there goes my master plan.
But, I have developed an alternate plan, just check the "My party for TOB" thread, and give me your thoughts on it, if you will.
Thx!

I think my first time i'll use him as plain fighter...then i'll try to dual him to thief and then to mage.....all the possibilities will be explored!!!!!

I don't get it, why will he only be able to reach level 14 as a mage? If he duals, he'll be at 0 experience in his mage class, and will have to work up from there. The cap is set at 8 million, which should more than leave room for him to surpass his fighter level. Am I missing something?Originally posted by ReignsOfPower:
Whats the point of making Sarevok a mage when he is a level 21 Fighter? The insane. He will barely reach level 14 mage!
And his fighter class will be permanently innactive due to the experience cap. A Major No no!

ok, so lets say sarevok has 3 million exp in his fighter class when he joins you. thats level 20 fighter if im not mistaken.
then you dual him.
then you will need to get to level 20 mage in order to reactivate his fighter abilities.
i know a level 18 mage has 3 million exp.
so that will make about 6.5 million exp total to have a level 20/20 fighter mage.
and that lower than the 8 million cap.
plz somebody correct me if im wrong!!

You need to be at least one level higher than the level where you dualled from in order to regain your abilities of the first class: your F20/M20 would not have his fighter skills back, but a F20/M21 would.

no, i just "assumed he is such a high level fighter for 2 reasons:
1: to be on the safe side (to just show, even if he is lev 20, you could still dual him and regain fighter abilities without removing exp cap)
2: the exp cap from SoA left us with 2.950.000 exp points.
a fighter with that many exp points would be level 19 (and level up to 20 at 3.000.000 points)

You also need to remember that the develeopers have state that it is unlikely (unless you solo) that you'll reach the level cap.Originally posted by Richard:

So what fun is it to play through the most of the game with a dual-class that you'll only get the most of during, say 5-10 % of the game.

You're right Xandax and that's the reason why i'll have him as plain fighter in first game. But the temptation of seeing Sarevok casting spells or hiding in shadows will make me dual him in my future games....

Yeah, upon further consideration, i've decided to keep him as a fighter, and go forth with my "Tank Rush" party.
However, like Edwin, it is a possibility that in future games I may decide to dual him.
