PT - The great game?

Post by Vysous »

I don't know, why most of
people calls this game
ugly, awful, stupid, ..........
I think it's one of games, where
great story, goes greatly
with wonderful black humor.
Why is this game forgotten too much
This is what I wanted to say........

It's been my experience that most people who talk badly about this game have never played it (or stopped before they even left the Mortuary).

hm, i imust say that i thought it wasn't a great looking game, but i've just started again, and the entrance into the skull collecter's house is one of the most beautiful scenes out of any game i've seen. and it is the best game i've ever played, and it's by no means perfect.

PST is one of the best, if not the best, games I have ever played. As far as the packaging goes..well it is a dark, moody game and the wrapping reflects this.
I suspect the reason it is less popular than other roleplaying games is because philosophy and dialogue are a major component, while slashing enemies into little bits takes on a secondary role. It is also quite different in that, owing to the story's premise, you have little choice in character creation.

Interplay reps told me after its release that it did very poorly, but members of the BIS team said it sold reasonably well--just not as well as, say, BG or IWD, which Interplay was banking on. Hard to say which view is accurate, but I'm inclined to go with BIS, here. Interplay had cut off sequels of decently selling games before; in fact, it's an unfortunately common practice. I can think of many others that went that route. :(

In my little experience I would say that people who don't appreciate PS:T are the same who enjoy giving a battle after battle and obtaining powerful items which will transform their PC into a little god. PS:T is not that kind of game. It requires your devotion, your precious time and lot of thought.

Fable has posted a short analysis in another thread, "Ending of the game". It speaks volumes, in my humble opinion.

Wow, from what I've heard about this game, it sounds like something that should be mandatory for all high school and college english classes :) :P

If I get it soon (with hope I will), It'll be a nice change knowing that what you say has a huge bearing on the game; and that every person you encounter doesn't want to turn you into a bowl of soup....

I'm not finished yet, but I have to say PS:T is probably the best game I've ever played. The depth of it...the NPCs...the quests...the number of dialogue options...just the general feel of the game. I love this game. :)

I, too, originally was put off by the appearance of the game, but after burning out on BG1 and seeing the trailer on the TotSC CD, I decided to try it. The next thing I knew, I was playing through the night to see what would happen next.
There's nothing a little poison couldn't cure...

What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

I think the game's complexity in a philisophical sense turned a lot of people off, though I fail to see why....

Woo! Game!

I agree with this being one of the greatest games I have played, I borrowed it from my friend while he borrowed Pool of Radiance from me, and I got about 1/3 of the way through then I wanted to restart and try something else so next time I got about 2/3 through and wanted to try again and then the 3rd time I beat it, then I restarted and beat it again another way..but yeah, I love Planescape: Torment, Baldur's Gate (all PC versions, dunno bout XBOX one yet), and Pool of Radiance.

You got the better deal in the exchange, IMO. ;)

I can't say that really..Pool of Radiance looks better and it satisfies my thirst for violence (until I get a better video card and get a LOT of money to maybe go for Star Wars Galaxies), and PS:T fulfills my philosophical side..plus I just got into playing D&D with pencil/paper and I wanted to check all these goofy games out just to see what kinda stuff to expect and it actually does help a bit.

Have you played PS:T with low wisdom and intelligence, and a fighter who has high strength and dexterity? I think you'll find that the game has a lot more violence.

I went pure fighter on PS:T each time I played it, it just isn't the same to me because I am focusing more on the storyline

I the PC magazine I read (PC Gameplay in Belgium and the Netherlands) is have never seen a game with a higher score than Ps:T. I got a score of 94 out of 100. Baldur's Gate II got 93, Neverwinter Nights got 93 or also 94 and Morrowing got 91.

So there are people who know how to appriciate a great game!

I dunno if that was a shot at me for "not appreciating" the game enough or what, but I am saying that I like the Baldur's Gate series, Pool of Radiance, and PST are all equally as good to me, I like the story of each of them, just in PST the story is right there in your face and it is hard to overlook unlike PoR.

PoR was too buggy for me to appreciate, if it works for you, great! :) PST just got me hooked from the word go. If there is only one gripe, it is that it didn't last long enough for me. :)
