I'm using Windows ME too. It's not great but it serves me.
Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

I am using 98, but I think there are other reasons than your operating systems why the game slows down.

What amendments to config have you made? what are your Ram and processor size?

These will affect speed of gameplay.

I played this game absolutely fine with Win 98, a 233 proc, 8mb graphics card and 96 MB Ram. I now still have Win 98, a gig processor, 32mb graphics and 224mb Ram. All that is speeded up is load times....

check your config.... ;)

Windows 2K on a laptop. I love being able to fire up the game relaxed and sitting back in my recliner.

I have Win 98 SE , little slow down with spells. I believe it comes from my video card only being 8 mb.

I'm running Win2k and it works to my liking. Some of the 3D effects run a bit slowly, but that's due to the fact that the GL drivers that run the effects are for Win95/98/ME only. Can't wait for the Win2k version to be released.

Win 98. The game was fine, except some of the spell animations.

Win 98. Game slows down in dungeons and it always slows down when several spells are cast at one time.

You people have it easy:

The first computer I played BG2 on (finished the game [all quests] twice on it) was... wait for it...

...P1 166mhz, 32mb ram, 32mb Banshee, Win95. Now that was slow, none of the animations worked, even the flames for the lamps :D , and the slowest part was the Twisted rune. (I don't even want to think of a 6-mage party)

Now I've got and AMD-800 with 128mb ram and a 64mb rendering card on Win98   the difference is phernominal, I now have everything working, sounds etc and it's great :)

Just make sure u have the latest video driver installed for your card. And u can also try to close any applications that are running your computer's background. Overall the game runs fine for me.
