Probably Laeral was a dryad. Their tears are often created into gems and are quite valueable.

Mae'Var is the rival thief to the thieves guild one aligns with. Mae'Var owns the guildhall and was treacherous to the rival guildhall, and eventually you must eliminate him. If you are a thief you inherit the guildhall.
