poll: most disappointing fight in the game

Post by vbarash »

Yah, Yah I know this is not very original, and evry1 is gonna say Irenicus, but there is some food for thought:

Djinni: (I thought wish-granting people would be a LITTLE more powerful)

Unseeing Eye: (THE Unseeing Eye): doesn't annoy you with low-level casts, easy 2 kill even w/o rod.

Bodhi: keeps acting like she's all powerful... quite a disappointment.

MOST demon summoners: that's the ultimate proof of why that spell sucks. Even when the AI uses it, it's very rarely a threat, and the AI itself ahs to kill it.

So think about it ppl...

Bohdi was very disappointing. Actually Kangaxx was very disappointing (once you know what to do). I also found Shadow dragon disappointing. :(

Bodhi is really hard if you don't protect yourself from leveldrain. If you do protect yourself from leveldrain well then you have nullified her most potent weapon. I can't say the shadowdragon was easy, when I first fought that thing I had no idea that the breathweapon would cause level drain. I was like level two after the first breath attack so it was by no means easy. But towards the end of the game I knew what to expect which meant that the end battle was rather easy.

Dragons, without a doubt. I mean, how many ancient wyrms that you know of allow themselves to be wiped out by a party of tenth level adventuring scum, and don't even use their "super-intelligence" or "flight" even once during the fight? Huh?!? How many? Not a lot. You'd think the oldest species of creatures in the Realms would live up to the expectations people have of them, and not just lay down and die when an elf with bow marches into their ridiculously untrapped, unguarded "lair" and plugs them in the eye with an arrow! And hoardes, what about the hoards?!? I don't consider a "Holy Paladin- Only Avenger", a couple of bucks, and some scales to be a hoarde! Do you? Didn't think so. I also don't think any dragon woth its wings would let some half-arsed tief prance around its lair, laying traps 'till the cows come home, or not notice that murderous cloud of fog that keeps blowing in its direction from the dark and unsuspecting shadows! And why do they keep fighting when they're bleeding out of every scale in their bodies? You'd think a super-intelligent, colossal, maiden-sacrificing, village-plundering, paladin-eating, treasure-hoarding, halfling-poking, elf-crushing, bane-of-all-that-lives, dragon would know when it was beaten and at least make an attempt, however pathetic it may be, to try to save its worthless hide and escape!! For the love of Jeff, people, dragons ARE NOT supposed to get killed by a crazed ranger who fondles a miniature giant space hamster, a pathetically weak, ugly, and whiney elven cleric/mage, a wanna-be paladin loser, an arrogant, self-serving, yet utterly cool conjuror, and an elf with a bow in under three minutes! Jeez, the programmers REALLY dropped the ball on this one! I sure hope someone gets fired for this! No, not fired, dragged out into some forgotten back-alley and beaten to unconsciousness by an eight year old girlscout with pigtales, then sent to Iraq with an American flag tacked to his wothless arse, then shippped back to BioWare and have the remains of his bloody carcass strung up the flagpole as a reminder to the rest of the industry!

Note: The previous message was brought to you by PBS, and made possible by support from viewers like you.

Edit: Jeez, what was I smokin'? The funny thing is that I actually think BioWare did a pretty good job with dragons, considering the limitations of the Infinity Engine. Way to go BioWare! Let's give it up for those brilliant AI programmers! Wooooohoooo!

Ok...I'll stop now...

The various Sahuagin fights. By this time in the game, your party is severely overpowered, thanks to all the items you've found. (And Bag of Holding down in the Maze? Suuuure! The Spellhold Mages would obviously leave that there! Right!) I didn't even have to close on any but a couple of the fishmen: I just summoned some monsters, and through +2 bullets and and similar sharp, pointy things at them from a distance. And that King, and the Prince, and the Baron...? No fight at all. A tin of unopened tuna would have put up more a battle.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Fable is right! The entire sahaugin city was a breeze, by that time in the story. I almost got scratched in one fight. Almost. :(

My vote, though, has to be Bodhi. Sure, her level drain is vicious, but you know about that one, so everyone is prepared. She had a great personality and voice, it's a shame she didn't have anything resembling a challenge. I had one character attack her alone, I walked out of the room to get a drink from the fridge, came back and Bodhi was long dead. I think she did a total of 12 hps damage to my character, all of which had been healed by regeneration when I came back to the computer. Boo! :(

Guess I'll have to go with Bodhi as well. For all her pomp and circumstance, she wasn't quite the challenge I was expecting. I certainly can't say that I enjoyed her personality and voice acting, tho. :D Unlike most of the characters in the game, I found Bodhi's dialogue to be poorly written and delivered. I dunno, she just didn't appeal to me as a villian. Regardless, I expected a whooping from her.

As far as Irenicus is concerned, I didn't think that first fight with him was at all easy. I made a point not to read any strategy (read: cheese) guides, so I was completely unprepared. Whatever he was on, it allowed him to use multiple chain contingencies; and spell triggers; and each with four or five spells, as opposed to just three. :D

By the way, while I'm on the subject of Irenicus, I'd like to encourage anyone getting close to finishing the game to not use cheese tactics on him. The battle is much more rewarding if you don't. You needn't worry about party members getting slaughtered; as long as you beat Irenicus, and you're main PC is still alive, everyone will be well and good for the final battle, with all their equipment intact. So just throw yourself at him, and give 'em hell! :D

You can get more of a challenge fighting Firkraag if you battle him as soon as the first dialogue ends. Your party doesn't get to set up, you get to deal with his mage, and you can't use the old cloudkill trick. Make sure you bring along a rod of resurrection. :D

There's nothing a little poison couldn't cure...

What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

LOL@Dúnadan!!! :) At least the cloudkill thing doesn't work with the Kevin Dorner patch. But come on, monsters that sit around while you summon an army of monsters and protections! Just passing through, yeah right.

Bohdi's Lair, definately. I mean, the first time I met her she gave me a bit of a beating, my guys had a hard time hitting her, and this was with about four of them attacking at once.

When we met her in her lair, she was accompanied by some pathetic guards who I bet Drizzit could probably have taken by himself, then Bohdi actually got killed by a single Fighter who vastly outmatched her! Oh dear, hardly a fight to the death for Imoens soul, closer to a walkover.

The Irenicus fight on the Tree of Life was rather tough I thought......right up until I realised I could just walk away while some Skeletons kept him busy, regroup and then come back as his protections wore off. Rather sad.

The fight in hell wasn't half bad actually, a tad easy once given a bit of thought (why in Gods name does he teleport AWAY from his Demons???? Surely when they're keeping you busy is the best time for him to kick your ass???)

To be quite honest, what I think the game realy lacked, was fights where losing people was (virtually) INEVITABLE! As it is, losing an NPC is so rare that seeing it happen merely makes you reach for the reload button. As Bioware says, some people find it tough, but for goodness sake! That's what easy is for!

And what happened to reactions to death anyway? Losing an NPC isn't the same without someone crying over them.....

"The mad wizard is dead! Saves me the trouble"

Finally, the Sahuagin city was just awful. Even when I went through the game the first time, and tackled the Asylm far too early and was massively under-powered, this section of the game was still a total cake walk.

this is one of the easiest questions i've ever seen on the board :D :D

BODHI!! men was i dissapointed when i was looking for a great fight with her :(
before u realised it, it was all over.
ok so u have assistance from drizzt, thieves and paladins :D :D
but still from a sister of Irenicus i aspected a lil'bit more competition.
Speaking of The Men he is a woes too! the final fight isn't exactly a hard one :( :D

Thx every1 for the replies, I must tell u I was laughing pretty hard about some of 'em, esp. about Dunadan's.

@all "Bodhi blamers": I killed her WITHOUT negative plane protection and other such stuff. Persoanlly, the only REAL challenge in all her lair was the first time you go kill it, when Tanova appears. She casts mislead, simulacrum, a couple of other spells, and is hard to be attacked by several people at once. Bodhi, on the other hand, stands like an idiot in the middle of a big room... Hmm... the words "daystar" "carsomyr" and "many, many attacks per round" suddenly come to mind.

@Dunadan: great post. But, given the limitations of the game (no flying), I can only think of a solution that would probably make you MORE mad :D . The dragon uses dimension door!!!! (I can hear the mad rave of player after player, seeing is 55000 xp vanish to an unknown location).

Keep on postin'!!!

Well, as least then it would show that the dragon has SOME semblance of intelligence somewhere in its worthless head. It'd be slightly more realistic that way, even though a dragon using Dimension Door would only get about ten yards away since the spell range is by line of sight, and a dragon in a cave wouldn't be able to see very far.

Dúnadan: Prepare to die you worthless waste of code! *Draws Sword of Disgruntled Rant +50*

Dragon: Ah, but you have underestimated the limit of my artificial intelligence, foolish mortal! *Casts Dimension Door*

Dúnadan: I doubt it. *Dragon reappears fifteen feet away*

Dragon: Dang. I don't suppose you can just turn around and let me sneak out the back?

Dúnadan: Nope.

Dragon: I see. Well, I've had a good run. *Lies down and dies*

Dúnadan: And that's the end of that chapter :D .

I was really disappointed with the fight against the Cowled wizards. These guys managed to capture Irenicus (briefly) and rule a ominpotent mages in Ankathla, yet they're easy to kill. The one in Umar Hills, the ones who appear for disrupting the peace. I lost all respect for the ruling system of Amn.
