The Old Man's Bar

Post by VoodooDali »

This is my new bar - the Old Man's Bar.

What makes an Old Man's Bar?

It opens at 6 AM.
For one, there are a couple of stools permanently indented with the shapes of Gwally's and Fable's bums.
You can't see into it from the street - grimy velvet curtains cover the barred windows.
The color red predominates.
The bartender is surly.
Someone gives you a Swisher Sweet cigar.
For a nice snack, there is a large pink jar of pickled eggs.
Old men sit quietly staring at themselves in the mirror behind the
bar, or tell old war stories for the nth time to anyone who will listen.
The Lotto machine is the most popular thing in the bar.
Nothing matches on the walls, from the stuffed bear head to the James Dean poster to the war-plane poster to the picture of a naked woman who looks like Gwally's first wife.
The bar opens at 6 AM.
The most popular hard liquor is Rye Whiskey
This bar still has cases of Falstaff, Storz, Stag, and Hamm's beer.
The jukebox still plays 45's and has original Frank Sinatra, Rosemary Clooney, etc.
There's a nautical clock on the wall.
Did I mention that the bar opens at 6 AM?

I wondered why I was drawn to this thread. :p

Oooo. Falstaff. :)

Do you have This Ole' House on the jukebox? Or Mambo Italiano?

Hey Surly,

Give me a Jameson on the rocks. How about we get some modern music on that Juke Box like Suzie Quatro and Status Quo?

And a painting of those dogs playing cards would be nice too.

Much as I love Cuervo - definitely not an old man's drink.

How's about an Old Fashioned? Or a Frisco Sour?

Didn't you notice the dog painting? I guess you haven't been in the back room yet...

Suzy Quarto - who the hell is that? Give me some Doris Day - now there's a singer. Here's nickle - put on Que Sera Sera.

We're allowed out in the back room!?
I saw some large piles of suspicious mushrooms out there and figured it was part of the kitchen.

Suzi Quatro - Is more famous in England than America but is a fiesty American Bass player-Singer circa 1974. Hey that is nearly thirty years ago. She was a Cameo on the ninetys Brit Sit-Com Absolutely Fabulous.

If its all the same to you I'll put on 'Witchcraft' instead.

Do you remember what movie 'Don't Fence me in' is from? - Curdis !

**Osiris enters the bar, and seems strangely at home. Fortunately the Doris Day song on the juke box has just finished, so he cues up "Peggy Sue" and "Save the Last Dance for Me".**

Bartender, give me a shot and a beer, please.
