I remember reading a book centered around two male characters. They were brothers one was adopted and half elf. I think that the opening scene was someone walking through the woods and a dark shape flew overhead, forget what the dark shape ended up being. The brothers set out on their generic quest and passed through a mist swamp, I think. They were joined by a prince who was an archer. Journeyed through the mountains, came to an uncrossable crevasse which had a fallen rope bridge on the far side and crossed by shooting a plank of the bridge with an arrow with string attached and pulling it back up. Sound familiar to anyone? A title would be great.
Yeah I thought it was The Druid of Shannara but in skimming through the book, very rapid skimming so I could have missed it, I did not see any of the stuff I was looking for.
