So much freakin WORTHLESS treasure!

Post by Skeelo »

God I'm annoyed so much by searching for treasure in this game it makes me sick. Sick, sick, SICK. 99% of the treasure you find is WORTHLESS GARBAGE. 3 gold, a gay malachite gem, stones etc. What gets me is the chests that are trapped and locked and then contain 1 gold piece. Does Bioware intentionally try to annoy the $hit out of people?

I would much rather find empty treasure chests than all the worthless crap!

Screw you Bioware.

Well that's pretty harsh. And hey, 3 gold each time adds after after a (very long) while.

Calm down mate it's only a game!!

If it bothers you that much save before opening a chest and keep reloading until you get something you want.

Now that would be incredibly time consuming and pretty much pointless. I'd suggest not checking the chests at all.

Nah. I can't recall exactly what, but I remember getting a lot of decent stuff from random chests througout the game, usually in dungeons (not including boss chests). So you would probably miss a lot if you ignore them completely.

Still, I have to agree, I don't know what inspired Bioware to plot down containers like mad in NWN. Especially the ones in town, I remember getting 50 gold from a trough collecting water from some kind of water tower. No wonder all the people in the game are so poor, they seem to have an uncontrollable urge to leave money in random places for wandering adventurers to take!

That's why their aren't that many beggers in Never Winter, alsmost every chest contains 1 or 2 gold. :D :D :D

But I have to admit, I found enough clubs+1 to equip an army!
I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.

Ahhh... to think of those days when I had to kill, sell and steal (usually steal) to reach 20,000 gold to side the thieves' guild in BG2. :)

NWN is almost a solo game, discounting henchmen, so I guess the developers have to cut the player some slack when it comes to gold. :D

I may be a little slow but, what does having more than one person in your party have to do with gold?

About this whole treasure thingi...
Early on in the game it's quite difficult to cobble money together. You need a ton of stuff and no money ..2 +1 weapons (if dual-wielding), a sash of shimmering, armor, etc etc. And it dosen't get easier as you go on... A cloak of Movement costs 25K, not cheap and so on..
NWN has certain breakpoints for treasure in boss chests..(Hide Covered Stronboxes).. Lvl6 is the earliest you get decent stuff (Cloak of Elvenkind, +1 Armor/Weapons). Lvl9 is the earliest for Artifact Weapons (Belt of Gaint Strength, Thayvian Circlet, etc..)
Lvl11 is the earliest for Boots of Speed. My strategy is to loot all the smaller boxes and keep all the strongboxes till I hit lvl 9. Since I play solo, that is towards the end of Chap1, then enjoy!. You'll never lack for money again...
As for reloading while looking for specific items, I wish the game was like BGII where you had to do something specific to get an item..like the Guarded Compound or Twisted Rune. Barring that..we don't have a choice. But it still annoys me ..and apparently IWDII has this same c@#p random system..

Yeah, I couldn't agree more. Stuff Bioware puts in chests is total crap. You know what's so much more annoying? These chests, boxes, or whatever, all have that retarded "damage absorb" that makes you waste like a whole freaking minute to open. Pretend you went through all that, and now there are the traps. Is it just me, or does anyone else think Bioware is an a$$hole to make traps do like 100 damage? Maybe they get satisfaction, ego boost, or whatever, with the knowledge that some people get really mad when their characters die because of these ridiculously overpowered traps. And suppose you made the save, congratulations, and opened the chest to find a "treasure": POTION OF BLESS. Wow. +1 to everything! Or it's healer's kit, the gaiest item ever. What the hell? Healer's kit? It SOUNDS weird. It looks like overblown bandage, with that little red cross thingie in the middle, and sometimes that's not there, I don't know what in the world is going on. Why not call it "a bunch of bandages?" The word "healer" is so weird in the first place. Second most hated item is shuriken or however you spell it. It's a stupid weapon and it apparently flies at your enemies to do like 1-2 damage. And really expensive. It has no real use. And Bioware puts that in boss chests. 15 retarded shurikens I can't even use! Yay! And what the hell, it's a lot better to go just chop enemies with Great Sword +3 anyway. Also, items look so immature on the inventory screen. What's up with that?
Conclusion: Play Warcraft! Dryad cheese. Double aura cheese. Caster cheese. Puhaha.

That's it AGAPE, let it alllll out... There, isn't that better? :D

Seriously though, I do agree with you. A lot of items in the game range from redundant to utter crap. Weapons are my biggest peeve, since there's since there's next to no diversity once you've picked a type.

I don't really mind the traps though. Of course, I'm saying this as someone who mainly plays thieves. Traps are like the only reason to have thief skills in this game, all other obstacles can be defeated by other means. It's not like there's no way to beat traps if you don't play a thief though, you just have to be creative.

About money, I don't see what the big deal is. I don't know where it's said that you have to have enough money to buy everything in the game. I personally found that there is too -much- money floating around in NWN (and also in BGII, PS:T, etc.). There's little to no incentive to make/save money in this game. Hell, the one thing I actually liked about Diablo II was saving up money for something good and having to choose between that bone wand that lets me summon 3 extra skeletons, or upgrading my armor by 30 AC. And since when do you make money from getting them out of chest? It's always been about selling gear, people, and it's pretty much been that way for all RPGs.

The way they implemented the thing is what's ridiculous. Opening 100 chests in every area, to get like 200 gold, 6 potions and half a dozen gems, and maybe a club +1, is really silly. The boss chests (sometimes) make sense, but having so many random chests with minor "treasure" (my butt) trapped with some weird fire-ice-acid 100 points damage, and locked of course, is plain silly.

There is too much gold floating around in those games, I agree. But in BG things were more under control and since you had to equip a six-people part, it had it's point.

In NWN... it's just pointless. And they even don't give stock options for tha gold :D
