The Patriot
The Patriot
I just watched it on TBS Superstation, man it was a great movie.
Some funny moments, and some that almost (almost! ) made me cry. Thumbs up from me.
EDIT: Commercials for Gods and Generals were constantly being shown, they made The Patriot look like a kiddy movie. Or at least it seems so, the clips were more... serious... yea I think that's what I mean.

Yeah, this is so funny this movie - especially that bit where the Brits incinerate the church with all the women and children in it. how I laughed.

The movie was an enjoyable couple of hours, with Jason Isaacs and Tom Wilkenson giving wonderful performances. Some of the most effective (if uncomplicated) performances either has given.
My favorite thing about it is the wonderful John Williams score. (Although Georgi probably won't see this, I bet she would say "There he goes again, ramblin' about that Williams guy )

I certainly laughed when Col. tavington skewered Heath Ledger. Ho ho! best part of the movie.

LOL As it happens, The Patriot was on here the other night as well, and I was thinking how good the score is. A little too much flagwaving though... and why all the complaints about historical inaccuracy when the English make such great villains?Originally posted by Morlock

The redcoats always make good villians.
Cheerio.

Everything I know about the Revolutionary War I learned from the Patriot. Damn you Nazi Brits! But I should have expected as much, after seeing their behavior in Braveheart.
Is it just me, or does Mel Gibson hate the English?

Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

I'm sorry Georgi, I wasn't even touching the historical innaccuracies, it was that bad.
The unit Tavington's was modelled on wore Green jackets. But as one North American Professor of History sarcastically pointed out, "these are the redcoats, and red coats they must have!"

LOL! Indeed, most kids in public school are taught the whole "redcoat" thing...however, I do believe that simply became a word that siginified the British military of the day in general.
The redcoats are coming!
To be honest, I never bothered to watch that movie. I knew it would be skimpy by way of historical accuracy...and when you're dealing with actual events in history, I think it's important to portray things as accurately as possible...all the way down to the color of uniforms.
Still, the Brits do make excellent villians, you must admit.

You'd enjoy Gettysburg then (4 plus hours of nothing but mind numbingly historically accurate movie goodness).

Bah. Gladiator was vaguely historical, and it kicked butt. You've got to know how to pick your history subjects.

Gladiator is even worse than the Patriot when it comes to historical accuracy. Trust me, it's laughably inaccurate. So which is it? You've said "when you're dealing with actual events in history, I think it's important to portray things as accurately as possible" and yet you tout the woeful erroneous Gladiator? Can't have it both ways, my friend.

And of course, the Brits are better actors and it takes it good actor to do a villain well... they get all the best lines.

Never! NEVER!!! None shall violate the sacred tenet of the cake! He must chose! But chose wisely. For while the true movie will bring you life, the false movie will take it from you... (okay, I have no idea what that meant)Originally posted by Gruntboy
