Its not a beautiful day in the neighborhood

Post by Tybaltus »

Mr Rogers, pastor and childrens programming legend died yesterday at age 74. :( He opened his home and hearts to the youth of America and he will be missed. He has left a legend behind.

heres a link to the story
“Caw, Caw!” The call of the wild calls you. Are you listening? Do you dare challenge their power? Do you dare invade? Nature will always triumph in the end.

I saw this on Yahoo news. It's a shame. I grew up watching his show. :(
Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

It was not so much that he was a great entertainer, as a great teacher......for very young children of the 60's 70's 80's and 90's, he introduced the foundations of how to learn adn question, as well as interact and relate to the world around a child.....he was everyones favorite uncle.. :)

The amazing thing about his show is that he made you (his audience) feel like you were actually standing next to him and talking to him while you watched his show. His show was incredibly interactive. He deliberately intended to offer children an alternative to fast-paced, non-interactive cartoons that did nothing to encourage children to think for themselves and use their own imagination, or think at all, for that matter. He did his best to make every child watching his program feel special, and I'm sure he succeeded. Now that's TV worth watching.

Fred Rogers lived a full and selfless life. He dedicated his life to helping others - especially children.

There is no greater thing one can do than to teach and mentor the young.

He talked the talk and walked the walk. With all the examples of hypocracy in the world today - Mr. Rogers was the real deal.

It truly never heard of Mr. Rogers until i was at school and some of my friends were talking about it. Something about, "Being my neighbor". Does this mean anything?

Mr Rogers always began adn ended his show with a simple song. I think every American child of my generation new the words to.

Won't You Be My Neighbor?
© 1967 Fred M. Rogers

It's a beautiful day in this neighborhood,
A beautiful day for a neighbor.
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?...

It's a neighborly day in this beauty wood,
A neighborly day for a beauty.
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?...

I've always wanted to have a neighbor just like you.
I've always wanted to live in a neighborhood with you.

So, let's make the most of this beautiful day.
Since we're together we might as well say:
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?
Won't you be my neighbor?
Won't you please,
Won't you please?
Please won't you be my neighbor?
