Vampire: The masquerade
Vampire: The masquerade
Now then I am not talking about the computer game, I am talking about the P'N'P game.
Have any of you played? What were your characters? ETC ETC!
I generally just want ideas, character and anything(untill we can get a white wolf forum!)

Oh god... It's found it's way to the forums. Personally, I don't like the White Wolf system of PnP. I got my friends into it, after I played V:tMR, though it was only a trend thing for me. Sadly, my friends thought otherwise
Anyway, I do play occasionally, but DnD is far superior, and used the D20 system so much more efficiently.
My character, that I use in my friends chronicles when I decide to play, is a human inquisitor by the name of Ethan Merek. Over the years of playing it, he's never died, and become such a powerful vampire hunter, that he's effectivly killed Elder vampires, and is so powerful in his faith that he could almost make a Methusalah cry, if I so wanted to. Basically, for fun, my friend, while DMing, put him up against A Methusalah. Ethan not only came out standing, but came out unscathed. The vampire couldn't touch Merek at all.
Suffice to say, my friend only lets me into the games when it's plot integral, and he won't let me beat up the new guys
But, like I said, I prefer DnD, mostly because I got my level 12 Elven Wizard Hunter. Shame he's Chaotic Neutral. The current DM has me hunting Elminster

Yes, my 5th generation, Wilhem Calimere, a Venture True Blood for the Sabat. I found that the vampires themselves were too powerful, being able to withstand too many atatcks, aside from the almost instant death ones. Personally, after I got Wilhem to a point of power where a single glance to any weak-minded individual resulted in an instant slave, playing as one become boring. So, my friend took Wilhem, made him an NPC for his Chronicles, and I switched over to Ethan Merek, who I found a lot more entertaining, especially because one bullet would be enough to kill me. And yes, my faith is godly. That and the fact that I took enough points in crafts and such that I have a plentiful stock (something around 150 rounds) of silver laced bullets, with hollow tips that have holy water crafted directly inside. It was some mad rolls to do, and took a few weeks, but one shot from his AP99 to a vampire, especially a weaker one, will result in a lot of agrivated damage. Not to mention the crossbow he carries (normal crossbow, nothing special) and the large, double edged sword, blessed by a Cardinal in Vatican City, and ordained by God, causing not only agrivated damage, but holy damage as well. In other words, I hack a limb off with that blade, and even a vampire ain't growing it back. I'm a mean son-of-a-***** in that game, thats why I rarely get to play.
Holy water does nothing to Vampires
And I have no Idea about silver, but the faith would have had to be high and it is hard to get it that high.- Vampires are repulsed by garlic and running water. False. These are myths and nothing more.
In theory, a mortal might have a Faith rating of greater than 5, but these people are one in a billion - the sort of people who are venerated as saints. They are unlikely to enter a chronicle (and certainly no more than once), but their powers would be
enormous.
Your using only the core rules, it would seem. There are many more individual rules used for the game, especially in the Hunters: The Reckoning book (all books were designed to be used together).
As for the Holy water, it does in fact hurt them. The running water thing is also true, but because the holy water is blessed, it causes agrivated damage to anything that is dead.

Well, I haven't played yet, but if my ST uses any I'll treat it like liquid nitrogen!
Here is my character:
After you finish drinking you reel and fall down, it's hazy at the moment but you see a group of people at the end of the alley, you hear your Sire walk over.
As you walk over and duck behind a dustbin you see a few remaining pale faced people look round and leave.

Hunters are on to me - I'll have to go underground - Leave the city for a while. You'll be safe - I distracted them from you - they'll assume you were just another vessel.
I cannot help you. But you're not on your own. Find Masika St John. She'll help you. Like you sh's a tremere. She'll tell you what that means.

My only question about this character is the Sect you're part of. traditionally, Tremere are a more supernatural based clan, shunning most technology. They are the arcane of the vampires, to be blunt. So, having him a mass hacker is odd, but then, if he was just embraced, then I guess it could work.
As for the rest, well, thats your ST, so I won't take it upon myself to change anything, or tell anything.

I played V:tM twice or so I think. I found it to be a nice variation to DnD (which I still prefer). My friends didn't like it that much though. It's a shame, since I've bought the Werewolf book, but haven't been able to use it even once in a game......

Because DnD is the popular method of PnP, Whitewolf has had a difficult time breaking into the market. On a plus note, though, every source book, regardless of reading material in them, are compatible, as there is none of this multi-planer crap. The Werewolf book is useable with Changling, Mage, hunter, and Vampire, which makes it very interesting to play.
My only real issue with Vampire, and it's cohert of books is that vampires and werewolfs are to powerful. I've seen one vampire soak an entire clip of an HKSP 50 (32 bullets), and didn't even flinch.

So, actually only werewolf vs. werewolf or werewolf vs. vampire etc. are interesting fights?
I liked White Wolf because of the setting we played (present) and because we had a great DM who was a master at creating puzzles etc. Fights were really important for the game, and not just for the sake of fighting.
May be sometime someone will start a story-thread with the White Wolf setting on GB. I definantly would like to participate.....!!!

I think I have never played it like that. Sounds very interesting....Originally posted by Aegis
Actually, the interesting fights, IMHO, is the mortal vs. any supernatural being. It's the only way I'll play the game, because I'm sick of the uber stats anything supernatural have.
