Soloing the Shadow Dragon

Post by NTWAYNE »

Ok, need a little help here. I'm embarrassed to ask. This is really sad.

The Shadow Dragon is wiping its rear end with my solo Monk. Its really really sad and embarrassing. Im not low level (came back from Underdark).

How can a solo Monk beat this thing (can I ?). I killed Firkragg with a Quivering Palm (took a couple of reloads, but I got him finally). But Shadow just resists and resists. I can get off 2 Greater Whirlwinds before he gets me. And then he is just "Barely Damaged" My AC is about -9.

Deathblows dont work, Quivering Palm aint doing it, and my other abilities hurt him but not much. He buffets, then Dark Dragon Breath (how do I protect from THAT?) or just beats me senseless. I feel like such a loser. Oh, did he cast Dragon Fear too?????

everything I read in the forums is on beating him with a group. Ive done that a couple times. But a Monk cant cast spells, cant set traps, cant summon -- not even with a wand. And I cant seem to hit him either.

Any suggestions?

Weird, I always find the shadow dragon easyer then firkraag.
Enable the attck/saving trhow feedback, and see if he just has lucky saves.
I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.

then Dark Dragon Breath (how do I protect from THAT?)

amulet of power, if you have item upgrade mod installed improved azuredge, mace of disruption +2...

he is level draining you...

Oh, did he cast Dragon Fear too?????

dragon bane, the sword in firky's dungeon, will make you immune to fear...

and finally, if you get too annoyed, just go past him...with the ward stone you dont have to fight him...all he's got is some loot monks cant use anyway...
They call me Darth...

Darth Gizka!

Muwahahahahhahahha!!!

some spoilers

Monks can use the Wand of Monster Summoning from Jon's Dungeon. And if his protections are a problem, you can outrun him until his protections wear off. It's been a while since I played a Monk, but you might be able to stun him as well.

And one other thing, the level drain actually wears off. I just beat him again on the weekend, and was surprised when the level drain symbol disappeared and Valygal was back at full levels.

shadow dragon

Thanks guys. I didnt notice my monk can use the critter summon wand.

5 minutes after I posted this, I took ONE MORE TRY FOR THE GIPPER.

Quivering palm, save versus spell.
Greater Whirlwind -- Barely damaged.

Dont know what he did, but "Monk Ngawa takes mucho damage from shadow dragon"
Monk Ngawa runs like a chicken! Should be a Totemic Druid (w/ a chicken as his spritual animal) run run run. Dragon chase. Quaff a potion.

Shadow Dragon "cuts off the ring" and Monk Ngawa is pinned in a corner.

Ngawa: Greater Whirlwind: Shadow Dragon
Shadow Dragon: Death.

Huh? What? How?

I saved this as a separate game so I can replay it. Maybe he was getting lucky saves. And I forgot about Firkraggs sword. I was looking for something like that too. And I dont have the item upgrade mod installed.

As I walked away into the sunlight, I noticed -- hey! The Level Drain wore off! But thanks, I did learn some tricks here. Hope they work on the next dragon.
