Stronghold question

I was wondering if anyone know what the Cleric 'stronghold' does for your character? Like does it grant special powers or anything? Or does it just give you some optional quests to gain XP?

I finished the game with a Priestess of Lathander. The Stronghold quests did bring in experience ... but no quest items IIRC (other than the loot from the Talos-temple).

I'm not sure if the retrieval of the Ring of Lathander is also part of the Stronghold Quest, since this quest is given by someone else than the one who evaluates your performance for the Temple. Returning the Ring of Lathander will deliver you a nice magical item - you can choose one of three different ones (a magical armor, a ring of Holiness, or a staff-mace).

I think that is probably part of the Stronghold quests. I was wondering when a Ring of Holiness would show up since I never saw one.

As a pont there was a ring in BG which doubled the amount of 1st level spells you could learn is it in BG2 or have they taken it away?
