NPC'S to Bring: Cassidy (Gauss rifle), Vic (Gauss rifle), ?Skynet? (Gauss rifle), ?Marcus? (Pulse/Plasma rifle)
Definitely get gifted. For the other trait? Bloody mess, or Sex appeal
Don't look into too much strength (Power Armor)
Don't look into much endurance (Armor/AC)
Get good perception
Average luck is all you need
Average Charisma
At least 9 Agility (AP'S)
At least 7 intelligence (Skill points)
Energy weapons are excellent for sniping, but you won't get a real good one at the beginning, so you may want to get small guns at first. Barter is always a good trait and so is speech if you want to be able to do a lot of things (other than kill lots of people).

Tag? First Small guns...then maybe speech and barter (just suggestions, you may find some better things).
For perks get tag midway through the game and put it on energy guns if you want to snipe with a pulse/plasma rifle. Get the perk that gives you more AP's. The Gain Stat perks are tremendous. Magnetic Personality if you have average charisma and want a pack of goons.

Strength: At least 5 to use most rifles w/o power armor.
Perception: At least 8 to get sniper, but get as high as possible.
Endurance: Crap, don't bother.
Charisma: Whatever
Intelligence: 6 for sharpshooter, though it doesn't really help much. Int is always good for skill points but otherwise unncessary.
Agility: 8 needed for sniper. Get 10 if you can, but you can always boost it with Gain Agility, or else Action Boy.
Luck: High as possible, criticals are essential. Sniper also requires a luck roll.
Skills: Small guns is all you need, but you can get the Tag! perk for energy if you want.
Traits: Finesse. Gifted.
Perks: Sniper, More Criticals, Better Criticals, Bonus Rate of Fire, Gain Agility/Perception/Luck, Action Boy, Sharpshooter. Whatever else that is generally good for any character.
NPC: Whatever rocks your boat. Get a few short range/melee characters like Goris or Sulik to keep enemy crosshairs off your back, but it hardly makes a difference who you pick.
Note I didn't take into account bonuses you can get in the game like the free stats you can get from the BOS headquarters in San Fran. This might not be the optimal formula for snipers in FO2 since I only really bother using power characters in Tactics.

Take Perception to 8 minimum.
Agility at 10ish is always good due to getting 2 aimed shots off.
Str. doesn't have to be higher then 5.
Luck at 6 is always my recomandation.
Endurance at around 5-6, you don't need terrible many hitpoints cause you should stay out of the imidate line of fire.
Charisma what ever is left - I often only ran around with 4/5 charisma.

Go for Small Guns definately. The others are importent for a sniper (yet).
Traits: Take gifted and Finesse (or shift Finess for something else, cause of its lower importance in the late part of the game).
Perks:
Awareness
Better Criticals
Bonus Rate of Fire
Sharpshooter
Sniper
Tag( get energy weapon skill.)
Unlike many I don't think you should go with the "More Critical" Perk because the Sniper perk will effectively negate it.
Sniper makes your critical chance equal your luck - so if you have 6 luck, you have 60% chance of a critical - wich is one reason I recomend good a luck stat.
When you level up, level to about 150% in small guns - don't go much over that score, at level 12 when you get access to Tag, select Energy weapons and level that skill to minimum 150% also.
The weapons to use is imo, based on playing and statictics, listed from beginning of game to end game (thus I recommend the Sniper Rifle over the Hunting Rifle).
Small Guns - Rifles:
Hunting Rifle (scoped)
Assult Rifle
Sniper Rifle
Small Guns - Pistols:
Magum .44
.223 Autoloader
Energy Weapons - Plasma:
Plasma Rifle
Turbo Plasma Rifle
Pulse Pistol
Pulse Rifle.
The Pulse Rifle is the most damaging single shot weapon in this game with this character set up.
Only weakness is that damage is electric and Tesla Armour is good versus this, but I've yet to find many people wearing Telsa Armour. Towards Power Armours the Pulse Rifle is better then the Gauss (wich is why I don't recommend the Gauss much).
Equip your party with what ever weapon you like them to use, they will not do much if you get a decent sniper up and running, then they are mostly there to divert fire from you while you can pick off enemies with 1-2 shot.
Except for end boss(Horigan), I think I've killed one of all types of enemies in the end game with 1 shot from the Pulse Rifle.

The problem with relying on Sniper to get criticals is that while it does negate your earlier More Criticals/Finesse, Sniper requires a level of 24, while you can get more criticals at level 6. I can't quite recall my last FO2 game, but in FOT by the time you get Sniper the game is pretty much coming to a close. Sniper is just a neat thing to have by the end of the game much like Slayer, but don't bank on it too much.
Pulse rifle rocks, but I tend to stick with gauss because it has far better range and helps me role-play my sniper.

24 is late in the game yes, I can't remember at what time I usually get level 24, but it is definately an end game perk designed for taking down Mutans and Enclave alike.
Still, personally, I've never needed more criticals on "normal" foes such as humans and animals. Usually just aimed shots for the eyes with a percentage of 99% will take care of most enemies with in a few shots without criticals. Especially when you gain access to Sniper Rifle or the Turbo Plasma Rifle.

Naa - I'm more of the "one shot one kill" kinda people.
Find the wastefullness of dispensing ammo without killing pointless and expensive.
That is why I always seem to end up with several thousands rounds of various ammo types in FO2
Only "burst" people in my parties are usually Cassidy with an automatic Shotgun

How can i do a very good sniper in Fallout 1 (first). In the beginning i chose this stats: STR 6, PE 9, END 6, CHA 2, INT 9, AGL 9, LCK 6; Traits: Gifted, Bloody mess; Skills : Small guns, Steal, Speach. What do you think about them? What could I eventually change? What perks (on each level) should I choose to be a (inteligent) sniper? I chose small Charisma because I want to have only 1 NPC in my team (to carry items). If that low charisma don't do a diffficulty to me (to play the game and made a lot of quests) and in dialoges?
Nope, that low charisma doesn't make the game too difficult (IIRC).kame84 wrote:How can i do a very good sniper in Fallout 1 (first). About your stats, I would take maybe one point frm END and INT, or 2 points from INT and max out PE and AGL. Also Steal ain't so usefull, maybe changing it to big guns, energy weapons or melee weapons. But of course, if you like reloading millions of times, go ahead with stealing

I would never select Bloody Mess as a starting trait. Sure it can be fun for a while, but it serves little purpose and you'll see plenty of NPCs splatter with large criticals anyway. Select something usefull instead.kame84 wrote:How can i do a very good sniper in Fallout 1 (first). well charisma does not affect the number of npc you can have in your team ... i had 4 with only 2 charisma ... charisma matters only in bargaining prices ... and it does matter quite a lot ... when first i played i had a 6 or 7 charisma and when i reached the hub i already had way to much money to spare ... with 2 charisma i had to give some things up to buy combat armour and sniper rifle ... but by the end you will find that you have much money to spare ... also for playing a sniper i would go for more criticals and better criticals and finesse because i finished the game without sniper perk and by the time you get it you get to use it on just a few enemies .... critical hits to the eyes do enough damage .... for me 3 critticals to the eyes finished the gamekame84 wrote:How can i do a very good sniper in Fallout 1 (first). *edit* you are better off with less npc at your side ... yeah they are good as packmules but thats about it ... i hate it when they get me stuck somewhere or one of them has a burst weapon and hits something by mistake ( me , other npcs or friendlys )

Here's a nice long-range combination:
Make a character with 10 Agility and 10 Luck, select Fast shot and Gifted traits, tag Small Guns and take the following perks: 2x Action Boy, Bonus Rate of Fire, Better Criticals and Sniper. Equip yourself with a PPK12 Gauss Pistol, and the results are: every shot is a critical with 60-80 points of damage, and you have 6 shots per turn.
