Damn Colorado and Detroit. I'm still bitter they kicked the Canucks' asses in the past two years of the playoffs.

Yup. Definate Red Wing fan. Here's a tip. Watch Sean Avery. A bit of a mouth on that kid (kind've like Tucker, on the Maple Leafs), but a damn fine player.

Neither of them compare to Brian Marchment.

I actually think that a lot of the west has a fair chance at the finals. Detroit because they always are good and tough to beat at playoff time (Vancouver proved that). Colorado because they've had a good streak lately. Vancouver not so much because even though they have depth, it's not as far as say Dallas. Dallas possibly. They've had trouble lately, but they aren't first in the west for no reason. Minnesota and Anaheim...euh....don't think they'll go far but you never know. As for Nashville and Edmonton? If either make the playoffs they'll have a tough time getting past 1st round.

Oh yeah. The Flyers acquired Tony Amonte which raises the stakes in the east

I only follow Champions League to see Man Utd's progress... Err, I should say "lack of progress". As long as they are knocked out from any competition, I don't care who wins. Hehe.

Dont be so assuming that the lower teams will be a push-over. The lower seeds tend to step it up, while the high seeds sometimes look past them or play down to them. (see: Last year BOS vs MTL and ALMOST VAN vs DET) There are always surprises...NHL is one of the hardest sports to call along with the NFL....unpredictibility baby!

Nashville's loss last night really hurt them, I think. I figure now they need nothing short of a miracle to make it in. And the NYR lost last night aswell...thats a hit, but NYI are still in sight. MTL won, and theyre still in the running.

Now...there was big college hoops news regarding Georgia...theyve forfeit the year and Harrick is suspended, and Georgia will not compete in the Tourney for the next couple years...anyone want to discuss this?

Students get suspended. Sports programs get pulled out. But the coach?

Gets his separation pay and moves on to another uni willing to take him.

I have learned that Harrick would always leave his job with controversies surrounding his departure. Three times, they say. First one was in UCLA regarding financial fraud...

...but hey, all of this have no hold on him afa being banned from coaching is concerned...

URI (his last college) was one of the schools I was looking at, but it was too expensive...maybe in a couple years....

Georgia players are already opting of joining the draft for next year. Its a heavy punishment to everyone who doesnt deserve it.

Harrick is a bloody wanker...he avoided the questions, accused the reporter that caught him of bad journalism, and portrayed himself as a hero. And now the NCAA comes down on him, and hes the one who isnt punished as much as his old peers.

Yeah, it sounds so wrong...

WOW!! Some big trades in the NHL! Some notables being:

Chris Osgood goes from the Islanders to the Blues for Justin Papineau and a draft pick
Toronto gets Doug Gilmour for a 6th round pick in 2003
Janne Niinima a 2nd round pick and a 4th round pick are going to the NYI for Brad Isbister, Raffi Torres
Edmonton traded Anson Carter and Ales Pisa to NYR for Radek Dvorak, Cory Cross
St Louis pick up Valeri Bure from Florida for Mike Van Ryn
Vancouver pick up Brad May from Pheonix for a conditional draft pick

A lot fo the teams made some really big trades, but I'm trying to figure out Detroits motivation for getting Schiender, especially when they traded off Avery, Kuznetsov, and two Draft picks. While I know Detroit is well off, and can afford to drop some of their players, and even prospects, all that for one player, and especially when they already have a strong defensive team. Very odd.

As for the trades to Toronto, Doug Gilmour is an excellant deal, as is Hously. I'm very interested to see what they can do in the playoffs, though, that means that some of their talent will be benched now (players like Belak).

As for Osgood, I was hoping Vancouver would get him, just because Cloutier isn't as solid as many would hope.

My big surprise trade is Edmonton getting rid of Anson carter. He was putting up pretty good numbers...on pace for 30-35 goals.

@Aegis I agree that what Detroit was strange...strange indeed.
I believe that Gilmour and Housely will help the Leafs with all their extra playoff experience, but I hope that in the process good players such as Belak, as you suggested, dont get beched.

Right...and this right after your talking about Avery. Thats a LOT of people for one person though...I also figure its a bad move, but maybe they know something we dont. But good for Shnieder...hes on a Stanley Cup contending team now...

Anson has done some nice things for EDM, I agree...and the way EDM is sliding, they need to keep as many players as they can that can help EDM stop the slide...

May is an excellent addition to the Canuck's line up (he's also a former Canuck now a Canuck again). He'll most likely play on a line with Lindgren and Klatt which could be an interesting combo. His grit will definitely help Vancouver in the playoffs plus he's not that bad a scorer and could produce some big goals with his linemates.

Brad Isbister is a major boost for Edmonton. He can shoot, he can hit, and is a wonderful power forward. Now NYI has a great D-man in Niinima and will help the somewhat lacking defense of the Islanders (Hamrlik, Jonnsen are pretty much all. Now they have three good defensemen).

Carter to NYR is a weird trade, but I guess Edmonton wants more speed (Dvorak) and more defense (Cross...not a bad Dman). I think it's a fair trade, but then again, Dvorak hasn't exactly been lighting the lamp in the past 2 years.

Osgood to the Blues surprises me. The Blues already have decent goaltending in Johnson and Braithwaite. Why they want another Masked man is beyond me. I guess they want a lot of stability.

Oh yeah. Don't forget. Amonte went to Philly....

My fear is that Osgood is gonna be made into a back up goalie, which he isn't deserving off. Osgood as both the talent and the resolve to be a starter, but with St. Louis' goaltending already as it is, it looks bad.

I was kind've hoping that Toronto would've faught more fore Niiminaa, instead of settling for Hously, but what can you do, eh.

Toronto has been beefing up majorly. They could be a serious threat down the line. Why Detroit keeps giving off prospects is beyond me. At least they haven't given away Zetterberg, Datsyuk, and Fischer. And Cloutier is not as inconsistent as he used to be. However he sometimes has 'merely ok' nights which have occasionally hurt the 'Nucks. He's getting a lot better at playing every game well (mind you he is still not as consistent as a Vezina trophy class goalie).

If they (Detroit) had traded away Zetterberg I would've sure that the Red Wings management was on crack. They're not proving their case so well right now either but...anyways. Henrik Zetterberg was my real big suprise player this year, he's 6th on the Wings in points, (no easy task considering their lineup) with 18 goals and going for 20. 20 goals as a rookie!? AND plus he plays on one of the deepest teams in the NHL so he can't be gettin anymore than 15-20 minutes a game. Which in itself is a respectable amount for a rookie.
