Creature in Svirfneblin village in Underdark

Post by carc »

I am in Svirfneblin village in Underdark and i was given a task to kill the creature, that the people had discovered while digging. I was asked to kill it and seal the hole.
I couldn't kille the monster, what kind of spells or strategy i should use?
Please help me!

Hmmm... If you can't kill that monster you will surely NOT rule the world... Image

Anyway, no more joking from my side then Image The Demon is kinda tough and I don't even remember how I killed it. But you need to use all of your spells, summon spells are very useful here. And you need a protection from fear, otherwise you will have a problem. Try everything.

You need a +5 or better weapon to be able hit Balor. So you need either the +5 sling from Joluv or the Hohly Avenger. If you have neither, which is a very real possibility, you'll need spells. Melf's Minute Metoer is a nice one, Sunray is another. He has high magic resistance so you'll want to lower it first.

Chaotic command is a nice protection spell to have before you take him on, cause his attacks will randomly fear your party, on top of his other long ranged mind altering spells.

I haven't tried elementals ad other summonings but I suppose those might work.

Personally, I had both the sling and the Carsomyr, so I just had Keldorn with chaotic command protection, and Aerie standing back and pounding him back into the ground.

Funny thing was Keldorn got feared on the last hit and then Aerie killed it, so I ended up standing there for about 3 minutes watching Keldorn with Bootes of Speed running around all over the Underdark like an idiot.

?? are you sure about the +5 to be able to hit a balor? I think I could hit it with both Lilarcor and Celestial? But as I said, I don't remember how I killed it, I just did at some point of time Image

Hmmm... i remember killing the monster with +3 or +4 weapons (don't remember if i had cuttroath back then). The monster is easy to kill with a good fighter who has 2 weapons style. just cast an improwed haste and chaotic commands to that fighter and give it the ring of freedom. Now the fighter will have 6 or more attacks and the hold person or the spell and the panic attack will not work. if you have good thac0 and good damage the monster should be dead very quickly. I dont know if this will work with only 1 weapon.

Actually I am not sure, but I do remember having only Aerie and Keldorn fighting it while everyone stood back with spells, Even though my main character was a much better fighter than Keldorn. And they are the only ones with +5 weapons at that point in the game.

But it has been a long time so there might've been another reason I didn't have anyone else fighting it. Maybe it was because they had items that made them immune to Balor's mind altering attacks, because I know that I had Aerie equipped with a Shield of Harmony at all times...

You can also use the Staff of the Magi. It is only a +3 weapon, but it counts as a +5 weapon in order to be able to hit anybody. The Staff can be found in the Twisted Rune.
