Ah, Gaynor. My usual advice is to kill him the -first- time he talks to you. Too late for that now :D

He has 95% magic resistance, 95% reflect, 95% absorb. He also has a 400 luck stat and a 400 skill in block. Essentially, the problem is you're just not getting past his shield.

The easiest way to deal with this is to whack him so often that his shield breaks. Once it does, killing him isn't hard. It will take you between 5-20 minutes of continually bashing on him to wear down his shield's durability, though. One thing that helps is to surround him with multiple summons, so more people then just you will be hitting him. You can also try getting him to accidentally hit a citizen with one of his blows, which will make the ordinators nearby target him as well.

The only trick to killing Gaynor is patience and staying power.

Well, that's not the only way. I was fortunate enough to have completed most of the original game before Tribunal came out so I was about level 35 i think and I just bashed him 10-15 times with either Sunder or Umbra (I can't remember which).

He died easily enough. Don't get me wrong, he's one of the toughest in the game but no match for someone who is Grandmaster Mage, Thief, Fighter, and Nevarine.

[The fact that I was very ticked off at him for such rude behavior after I gave him over 100,000 gold may have added godlike strength to my blows :) ]

I wondered how much he would weedle from someone - there is indeed a sucker born every minute - LOL.

I have forgotten what I used - probably dwarven darts, Trueflame, Hopespire.

But the ebony armour does make a nice prize, doesn't it??

you just outwitt the AI... :D

cast a mark spell somewhere away from him (so to buy some time when he draws his sword). Talk to him and as soon as you hit "goodbye", cast recall. He'll still be running after you, so run for the rocks nearby, jump (you can't levitate in Mournhold) to the highest rock and he'll be unable to reach you (fortunately, NPCs can't jump... not much for realism). Then just blow him up with spells. He can reflect them most of the time, but with a hand-made ultra-powerful destruction spell and some luck he'll fall face down and never even get a chance to hit you.

I found a +15 luck amulet in him after searching the body, and ebony armor is also nice...
