Nooo!! Not the CD!!!
Nooo!! Not the CD!!!
Well......im getting luckier and luckier with the day.
Were I first had problems with the stuttering step (I tried a complete reinstallation), now im not able too install the game anymore!!
Theres a scratch on my most used cd!!!
The installing process goes to 57% and then stops.
So I tried just copying from the cd, but that doesnt work either
Well....since Im opposed to copy things, I guess I need too buy a new cd .......unless theres some sort of solution....thats why I'm posting here

Háppened to me too, and i posted on alot of forums asking if they could maybe send me the damaged file (I had it installed, couldn't get to the Tempel district). So i figuered the onlway must be to see if yuou can download an ISO file from Direct COnnect or something like that and then open it with Daemon Tools.
Blah... nothing for me...
You could also try to use another CD-ROM drive if you have one , because some drives have bettter error correction than others.
I have the same problem with the first Baldur's Gate I CD, but while it doesn't work in one drive, the other works just fine.

I don't know if you the ability to duplicate the disk for your own personal use (which is perfectly legal), but if so, try making a copy at a slow speed: perhaps 4x. The slower the copying speed, the more likely you have of getting around the error.

@ Numinor => I dont have another cd-drive, so this option isnt working.
@ Fable => I can't make a copy of my cd, since I don't have the right tools for it.
@ Vintersorg => I'm not exactly sure what u mean with ure post. I know the damaged files: AREA000B.bif and AREA080A
I checked the shops in a couple of places near my hometown, but unfortunatly they dont have it in store. Seems shops dont sell 2-3 year old games......

1, get nero or clonecd.
2. you could perhaps order it on the internet, and else try downloading an iso or bin.
Hello, if you haven't found a solution yet, I'm willing to send you the files you need to complete the install.

The best diskcopier I've seen is Roxio Easy CD Creator. I strongly recommend its purchase, since you'll be able to back up all sorts of things using it. Plenty of excellent tools.

Where did you purchase the game? Do you still have all the original packaging and perhaps the sales receipt? Some retailers may allow you to exchange the game. You might also see if you can get your hands on a CD repair kit or maybe contact Black Isle to see if they'll replace your damaged media.

liek, easycd is teh blow :/
use nero for your normal burning and iso making etc
use clonecd for burning cd's with protection

Well, first you shouldn't have abused your CD too much.
I really don't think it was abuse. CDs get scratched, especially if they're used in the amounts many of the members here do... And if he got the CD in paper folder it's doomed to destruction. Just like all my BG1 CDs, wich are actually just big scratches due to the crappy packaging they came in.

@Globester, you are of course entitled to your opinion on this and other matters. But you might consider explaining why one product is less qualified than that you champion--other than your subtle and witty "it blows."
FWIW, I've tried both Roxio and Nero, and reviewed 'em both for a magazine about 18 months ago. I'm mentioning that not because my opinion is worth more on this than anybody else's--it isn't--but I have extensively used each product on a daily basis for more than a month at a time. (Have you?) Nero's quite good, and it has a loyal following particularly in Germany. I find Roxio offers more features, and has greater flexibility in their deployment. Either should be able to do a job like this, assuming the CD is salvageable by slow-speed copying.

It is however a system hog and always wants to install itself so that it starts with windows which slows your entire operating sytem down. I have been using Nero for a while and never had any problems with it, never really liked Easy CD Creator much, I prefer Nero's ease of use and the fact that it doesn't try to take over ones computer.

I've just launched Roxio on my currently available OS (Win98), with Memokit running in the background. Resources dropped from 60% to 52% when Roxio was launched: not bad. When it was actively performing an operation it's a resource hog, but any CD copier should be: it's intended as a foreground task, and ought to be claiming as much RAM and resources as possible to do the job. This beggars the question, I guess, because I wouldn't want to do anything else on my computer while copying CDs. I don't want a sudden loss of processing power to affect my efforts. I can see where if you want to do other computer tasks at the same time, Nero would be a better choice.
As for installing itself at startup: a lot of apps do that. I dislike it as much as you, and I always disable it. It takes two clicks to do so.
Nero, as I recall, gave me a lot more buffer errors than Roxio. Nero has the better interface, but Roxio offers a much larger package that includes such features as user-controlled frequency equilization for copied music CDs, and the ability to convert WAV files. Nero offered WAV file conversion (at least, in the version I have) as a separate, purchaseable add-on. Roxio offered MPEG conversion, and a nice little editing package for audio files.
I suppose I should dig out my reviews, but I'm inherently lazy. Not to mention, this thread seems to be heading south towards SYM.

Well.......back to the core of this threat
I gave my uncle the cd so he could copy it (letting family copy things isnt illegal.......right??). But it failed misserably.....its ready for the garbage....
So....now I got 2 options: 1= Downloading it from Kazaa or something else 2= Buy it again, from the internet that is...its 14 euro's, which is around 15 dollars, so it wont cost me 2 months work
@Krimmi......I tried that, it didnt help, thanks for the offer though...
@Fable........Buying a copier for myself it quite handy indeed....I might even spare money on the long term.....but buying it in the first place probably requires a new comp too
@HighLordDave.....Going back to the store wont help....since I bought the game 2 years ago or so. ...I dont think I will be able too return my cd.
@AGAPE......I ALLWAYS do a full install.....it didnt help one bit.
So like I said....I will resort to my former (2) options
Thanks for the replies and help though.
