My friend and I are going to play a duo game.. since neither of us are doing too well at soling the game.
How's this sound:
Kensai/Mage
and
Kensai/Druid
All I know is that he wants to be a Kensai/Mage.. I'm open to anything at all.
Duo?
i couldn't get anywhere in this game w/o a thief. From traps, detect traps, to backstab, to libertating items off the ahtalka(sp) vendors...they just have so many uses...i would recomend u have some thieving abilities between the two of you...although u could prolly get by with find traps (priest spell) and knock (mage spell)
If I were playing with only two characters (I've done it before), I would take a multi-class Fighter/Thief and a Cleric/Mage, or a Cleric/Ranger and a Thief dualled to a Mage (like Imoen). Those give you a complete skill set: melee, stealth, backstabbing, healing, undead turning, thieving, ranged attacks, and lots of spellcasting.
In my last two games, I soloed Chapter 2 and Chapter 3, although I did recruit help temporarily in Chapter Two when I felt I needed it. For example, I took Nalia with me to Windspear Hills. When I rescued Imoen, she became a permanent member of the party. However, I edited her (which IMO was equivalent to making her a "home-grown" party member with NPC dialogue): I made her a 9th Level Thief dualled to a Conjurer (with INT 18) just like she was when I finished Baldur's Gate. Mainly, it improved her stealth and gave her some halfway useable backstabbing ability as well as extra spells. I think Imoen would be okay without the editing, but that's the way I did it.
BTW, if I continued playing the duo in Throne of Bhaal, I would add a Fighter and make it a trio. I tried it with a duo and some of the battles were just too difficult to be any fun.

@Aranan: I think it'll be a lot of fun for both of you. Perhaps a little challenging in the "mid-period" when both of you are waiting to regain your primary class, but that's part of the roleplaying fun, no?
When are both of you planning to dual, btw? If one of you duals at lvl 9 and the other at lvl 12/13, then it would help you get around the above problem, sort of. I would always dual at lvl 13, but that's just me. With a small party, it shouldn't be long before you regain your levels.
I have soloed a kensai/mage about 3 times and it's been so much fun
With the extra melee pwr/druid spells of your companion, you will be seriously powerful...

~~ aim low, deliver.
i'm playing it with my mate now, just us 2, no npc's
he's a fighter dualclassed to a cleric and i'm a multiclassed mage/thief
a mage is a must and a thief should also be in, although you could try it without one.
you could try a monk as well, since you should be levelling very fast so your monk will be at lvl 14 quite fast.
