Lich Headache

Post by TheHellion »

I'm in the Underdark (still), doing the quest for Jarlaxle to free the rest of Bregan D'aerth. The lich in the tower if proving to be troublesome, even more so than Kangaxx. Of course, I was well prepared for Kangaxx, and in this case, my resources are rather limited. As soon as I enter, the lich casts Spell Trap and Protection From Magical Weapons. These two spells seem to have rendered my entire party useless; efforts to remove Spell Trap have met with little success. The only protection removal spells at my disposal are Spell Thrust, Breach, and Pierce Magic, none of which have any effect on Spell Trap. I've tried leaving the tower to let his spells wear off, but he follows me outside. Can anyone else offer some suggestions?

All liches use the 'Spell Trap', which is the most effective Spell Protection. It's a level nine spell, so a 'Secret Word' won't be enough. You'll need at least a 'Ruby Ray of Reversal'(Lvl 7), which is very rare, to dispel it.

But it's not really necessary to do so. Weapon protections, and mantle's have a very limited duration (4 rounds), so just wait for them to wear of (I killed 3 liches in Athkatla early in the game without the Ruby Ray).

I found a real easy way to kill liches. Its a little hit-and-miss but allows even low level parties to compete.

Use stun weapons, lots of them. Darts of stunning are especially quick. If you can hit them before their protections go up, they're dead, um, meat. They can save versus spell but 2 0r 3 darts usually does it.

"Cackle! I am the undead super-lich, not even death itself can take me I, er, is that a dart of stunning on your level 5 thief? Oh dear..." Image Heh heh.

Also, cast chaotic commands and death ward on your character. I often cast this on one character who has fire resistance and sit back and watch him take out the lich by himself. The only spell they ever cast that usually hurts is Abi Dhaldim's HW.
