TOB problems with XP cap removed
TOB problems with XP cap removed
so, befoe i install TOB, has anyone had any problems with characters that have had the experience cap removed?
I would be a serial killer if i didn't have such a strong distaste for manual labor
I remember reading a warning in the past that one should not remove the expereince cap for charactors in Shadows of amn or they my find that their charactors will not be able to access the high level abilities (in TOB). I am not sure if this is true, but I am not taking a chance unless someone with first hand experience in TOB tells me otherwise.
Yin and Yang balance. There is one within the other. No Difference in Reality. What do you experience?
So is it true that the character's won't get the high-level abilities if the cap is removed? This is really a major problem for me if it's true...And do you really start getting the abilities from level 20? (my cleric's on level 25 or something and my mage on 19, so would my mage get them but not the cleric...?)

When I started TOB my characters had well over 3,000,000 experience. My Cleric was level 23. My mage was 20. When I imported them they were the same level, 23 and 20, but their experience was reset to 2,950,000. They were a long way from the next level. I had completed alot of stuff and still they wouldn't level. It was frustrating until I noticed that their experience was lower. I used Shadowkeeper to reset their levels to what is normal at 2,950,000. When I next started the game everybody levelled and got to choose abilities. If you have removed the cap then I strongly suggest that you reset the characters levels to what is normal when finishing BG2.

OK sounds like I need to change the experience points for my single classed characters. BUT what about dual classed characters? I have a Kensai/Mage that is 12/17 in levels. So since he hasn't hit the point where he gets the special abilities it chouldn't be a problem right? HAs anyone tried this?

You just have to remember that when u set back your exp and lvl with ShadowKeeper u keep all the Thac0 (and other) bounuses u have gained from those lvl ups!!!
If that's not a problem to u then hurra! but if u like to play it fair (like I do) then your char's are more powerfull then they should be...
U should also edit the other bounuses u have gained.

How do you know what you gain on which level? I mean is there a log in your character or something like that?
Also can't you download an exp cap remover or is it better to reload a saved game where the characters haven't reach the exp cap?

Sorcery and Shadow together as one, the arcane and the dark united. Through our knowledge and skill none can stand against us. We are as one, infallible and invincible. The Shadow Mages.
I had the experience cap removed on my players from SoA, when I migrated to ToB only Anomen had reached the cap. No problems other than I had to wait until he leveled up once before he started to get his high-level abilities. Honestly, I wish I hadn't used the experience cap remover but, I find it frustrating hitting my top level mid-way through the game (like I did in BG). SoA had a much better cap in it.

I used the exp cap remover, and I had the same experience reset to 2,950,000 thing. I just played through until I finally started leveling up again. The only problem with that is you miss one or two chances to pick special abilities. My suggestion (and what I'm going to do next time, if the occasion arises) is that you not reset your level, but change the experience to its original value before it was reset. It's fair IMO because you earned the exp fair and square.
