Mysterious Mushroom Area/Making Cernd Useful

Post by Rapper »

The first question is about that odd mushroom area beneath the copper cornet, in the sewers right by where you get the ring. Anyway i can't figure out why its there. I have gone through the game a few times and each time i pass it, i get more pissed off that i can't find any usage. I was thinking that the Minitaur thats is killed there might be the key but i don't want to go back and start a new game just to answer this question. I was wondering if any of you guys would know cuz its pissing me off.

The second part about cernd is just a little pet project of mine. I have read about how ****ty he is but i was thinking of how to make him usable. I have never used him in one of my games for obvious reasons but this time around i am gonna try. My party is a my paldin, korgan, viconica, jan, edwin and i need a second cleric so i though about cernd. I was thinking about giving him the gauntlets of dexterity to raise his ac and later to give him the gauntlets of crushing to increase his werwolf hits. Any idea on what other little things that i could do to beef him up a bit before i grab him would be nice.

Thanks :D

@Rapper, that mushroom thing keeps coming up, here--do a search on "mushroom" and check out the previous threads for all ideas regarding it.

As to Cernd, he isn't a cleric: he can't turn any undead. However, I think a druid is more useful to have than a second cleric, given the difference of spells--there's a wonderful druid spell that targets all opponents with insects, for instance, and keeps mages from casting.

Cernd's problem, for me, is that he's an effective fighter, OR a good spellcaster: he can't do both as needed, but has to change form, and that takes time. In his native form, he's a pitiful melee opponent. I prefer Jaheira because she can also wear plate like a fighter (after all, she's a multi-), and although it takes her longer to gain experience, she acquires more proficiency at use than a pure druid, and is a very effective tank in the later stages of the game.

another problem with cernd is his low hit point status....druids are nice because they gain high lvl spells quickly, but their cap is at 1.500.000. And you arrive at their cap quickly. I say: take cernd if you plan to continue with this party in ToB. If not...leave him in his grove...

thanks guys... i did search for mushrooms and found some stuff but it doesn't satisfy me... after reading the balderdash pantaloons thing i am determined to find out what the hell that room mean... i will start a new game and save the minitaur with a solo sorceror since i figure spawning spiders will kill the bad guys without me moving past the initial spot of emerging from stairs and that should kill them while saving him..... i'll let you know what i find out from him

also about cernd... i plan to use this party for tob... i am totally unhappy with my original berserker party and i don't wanna continue with my evil party of 4 or my enourmously powerful solo sorceror so i decideded to try and make the strongest party of 6 composed of all npc's and my one protagonist.
My finaly party prior to adding tob will be

Paldin: To use holy avenger for obvious reasons. I would use keldron cuz my guy is an inquizitor for amazing innate abilities but he has a nasty reaction to edwin who is hands down the best spell caster.

Korgan: to be replaced by you know who

Viconica: cuz she is hands down the best cleric and with a little strenght help which you get ealry on from the maulers arm is awsome

Jan to be replaced by imoen cuz balspawn stick together though she isn't as good of a thief but i will have stolen all i need by the time i move to tob

Cernd as my second "clerical" type which i hope is given immense bonuses by the time he reaches 8 mil experience that he will be worth having around... plus i am pretty experinced in the ways of bg so i should have no problem preventing him from dying early on

Edwin who is amazing for everyone out there who may not have tried him out as part of thier team cuz he is evil.... he is awsome

i;ll let you guys know what i find out about the minitaur by tomorrow!!!!!

It's true Cernd *will* become more valuable as the druid experience cap is blown off in ToB. I suspect a lot of people will be playing him, then, just as many will try Haer'dalis for the additional bard songs.

well i saved the minitaur....

once all the mushrooms were dead i moved out invisible and wanted to see what was goin on with him. Once brought into our field of view with all the bad guys gone he says out loud without a dialog initiation kinda like when you get text from a question mark
"My comrades fallen my last breath is of rage"
then he proceeds to die without any provication. Something that was interesting was that i don't remember seeing any other mintaurs other than the one next too the beastmaster as part of the copper cornet slavery quest... i might be wrong but from what i remember thats all i ever saw. Maybe you guys have some thoughts on this cuz it is really pissing me off more now that i know what happens... maybe if i have some item in my inventory he wouldln't be so quick to die. I think i am gonna keep palying with it and try to confuse him and then charm him and see what happens. This is all really annoying......maybe some other guys can look into it with me and we might be able to solve it... something initiated the dialog and i dont know what. How would i go about checking what did that and maybe try to find out what other items/party members might create other dialog option with him???

Other Minotaur Locations:

Kangaxx the Lich's house

Spellhold - Asylum.
Cartoon Law III
Any body passing through solid matter will leave a perforation conforming to its perimeter. Also called the silhouette of passage, this phenomenon is the speciality of victims of directed-pressure explosions and of reckless cowards who are so eager to escape that they exit directly through the wall of a house, leaving a cookie-cutout-perfect hole. The threat of skunks or matrimony often catalyzes this reaction.

Additional bard songs??! You mean like in Icewind Dale: HoW?
There's nothing a little poison couldn't cure...

What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

The minotaur dies because it is in his script. You cannot save him or stop him from dying unless you edit his script.
