Problem with Merchant League

Post by JAD »

Hey there, new to the forums here, great looking place sofar :D
Anyway enough banter on to my question.

I just recently gotten back to playing Baldur's Gate earlier last week from a previouse game on the old computer ( new one works fantastic )
I had bought a copy of the Baldur's Gate:TotSC gift pack and used that instead of an older copy which I had given to a friend, that copy doesn't have TotSC.
I'm currently in the city of Baldur's Gate, where I picked up my old save game. Everything works just fine except when I go to the Merchant League to investigate I cannot seem to get past the front door which always comes up with " This door is held with a complicated lock and cannot be opend with minor magics" or something very similar. I've tried everything.
I've even checked my journal to see if I talked with Aldeth Sashenstar ( back in chapter 4 with the druids helping him there, and again in chapter five ) and both times are listed.
I have no idea if I forgot to do something, need a certain item or what, I'm pretty much at my wits end  and could really use the help, thanks

I believe you are supposed to talk to him right outside the building....if that doesn't work, I'm not sure.

According to my journal in the game I have talked with him and agreed to investigate the Merchant League, which would indicate that I have talked to him.
Unfortunatly I am not sure what else to do, I really want to complete that subquest and I'm to lazy to restart :p

Try maybe a earlier saved game. Or go look to the giver of the quest.

I tried that. Unfortunatly every hintbook/walkthrough/web based FAQ I have checked say then next time you are supposed to meet the quest giving person in question is somewhere inside the Merchant League on one of the floors
After hearing your responces I may just have to continue on with the game and not worry about that little subquest, since I don't seem to have a previouse save game that far back
Aw who cares, I still got all the cool subquests for TotSC to go through, and finish the game of course.
Thanks for the help though :D

I would think so, unfortunatly my journal says that I have talked with him at some point in the city, which would mean that I did meet him.
Roght now I am not sure if its a game glitch or something else.

When you talked to him in Chap 5 he opened the door to the Merchant League. If you then left the area, it is possible that the door was closed by the system.

You can try using CLUA to recreate Aldeth:

CLUAConsole:CreateCreature("aldeth")

I am not sure if this will work, however, as other variables may need to be reset.

You can check this by looking through the scripts, but my guess is that will be more effort than it is worth. If you don't want to restart from an earlier save, your best bet is to just chalk this one up to experience.
