Well, today's lower division, Busch race concluded today...and it was just as thrilling a finish, as they wrecked coming to the line. Great weekend all around. NASCAR is looking great, going into the most exciting race next week, Bristol.
Here are more pictures on today's wreck-happy and action-filled Darlington 200...
The wrecking started early, and took out, points leader, David Green
Stacy Compton (59 car) gambled, and almost won, by stretching his pit stop status late, and battled hard, on the slick and slim track of Darlington
When all was said and done, and the wrecking stopped, and dust settled, Todd Bodine was the victor.
Winston Cup:
The race started cloudy, and it didnt lighten up any, when Jerry Nadeau spun in 2nd place and burned the tires, creating a cloud of smoke. Slick tires on many caused several problems early, including a spin by rookie, Jack Sprague, and a 7 car wreck going into turn 1, ending the runs for Sterling Marlin, Tony Raines, Kevin Harvick, Bobby Labonte, Todd Bodine, Jimmie Johnson, and Ken Schrader.
The race went green for a while, and Mark Martin appeared to be the dominant car for the long runs. 2nd round of green flag pitstops was interrupted halfway through, as John Andretti got tagged by Jimmy Spencer, causing his tire to explode, damaging the quarter panal, and spin into the wall.
Last round of pitstops occured, but Martin's pit crew missed a lug, he finished 4th.
Jeff Gordon got the lead, but raced Elliott Sadler too hard, he got into the wall and finished 33rd. Elliott Sadler's tires faded, as did he, finished 6th. Kurt Busch, Ricky Craven, and Dave Blaney were the cars that were to battle it out, but Blaney faded and finished 3rd.
2 laps to go, Craven got a run in turn 2 and knocked Busch into the wall, they collided again, and Craven washed up the track.
1 lap to go, going into turn 3, Craven caught up and made a courageous move under Kurt Busch. They went side by side, brushing against eachother on the straightaway...Craven at the line by 3 inches and .002 seconds...the race lasted 3 hours, and all that it came down to was .002 seconds...amazing....

Anyone watch the "Battle of Britain" last night?!?
Celtic beat Liverpool with 2-0 and advanced to the semi-finals...their biggest feat in Europe during the last 30 years.
In the CL both Newcastle and Arsenal failed to advance from their groups. Only english team left in the competiton now is Manchester United....should please one or two of you....especially Minerva...
Also Ajax, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Valencia, Inter, AC Milan and Juventus avanced. Could be an exciting competition...

ManUtd-Real : Real will go through to the semi-finals
Barcelona-Juventus : Barcelona will go through to the semi-finals

I watched the battle of britain last night, and I must say Celtic deserved to win. Even though there were some weak periods in the last part of the first period, and in the first 20 minutes of the second.
If I had the channels it takes to watch all those magnificent games, I would, but I don't.... Will have to suck up for my friends and get an invitation

Well, I dont follow the game as much as you, I dont think, so you know which upsets to pick for the most part...14-2 aint that bad.Originally posted by Ned Flanders
I missed Memphis and NC State yesterday. Otherwise rolled to a 14-2 record on day 1. Thing that sux is that I had NC State beating Oklahoma.
But NC State burned me too, at least for the first round. I didnt have them going THAT far, but after they did pretty well in the ACC Tournament, I had higher expectations for them.
Good job calling the Creighton and C. Mich game along with the Dayton/Tulsa game, though, Ned.
I think I took too many risks, but I thought Holy Cross could pull through after their last 2 years of JUST missing a huge upset, and Marquette really stuttered in the C-USA tournament.
Notre Dame really seemed to have all sorts of problems at the end of the season, and I thought Wisc-Milwaukee could upset them...
I didnt know enough about CIN vs the Zags, so I just went gut feeling...I know they BOTH struggled in their tournaments, so I just didnt know where to go there...

Well the F1 qualifying results are in.
1 Rubens Barrichello Ferrari 01:13.807
2 David Coulthard McLaren 01:13.818 +00:00.011
3 Mark Webber Jaguar 01:13.851 +00:00.044
4 Kimi Räikkönen McLaren 01:13.866 +00:00.059
5 Jarno Trulli Renault 01:13.953 +00:00.146
6 Ralf Schumacher Williams 01:14.124 +00:00.317
7 Michael Schumacher Ferrari 01:14.130 +00:00.323
8 Giancarlo Fisichella Jordan 01:14.191 +00:00.384
9 Juan Pablo Montoya Williams 01:14.223 +00:00.416
10 Fernando Alonso Renault 01:14.384 +00:00.577
Well the Ferrari's aren't on the first two spots again. Even more impressive, an Australian made it into third spot
EDIT - I tip Coulthard to win in Brazil, as Barichello has a very poor track record at home and for Renault to pip Ferrari to number two in the Constructors Championship.

Minerva's probably ecstatic right now...
...ManU 4, Liverpool a big fat egg.
To add insult to injury, it's a double this year for ManU...
...quite interesting to note that most of Man U's first choice team played too for their respective countries for the Euro qualifying match and were present at that showdown last Sat. Owen on the otherhand was absent because of a dead back.

Wow...Impressive job for Webber, and even more impressive for Jaguar. Theyve needed a boost for some time, and have really been one of the weaker manufacturers in recent F-1 competition...of course compared to the Ferrarris the recent years, everyone has looked unimpressive.Originally posted by Tamerlane

Going to Nascar...I know not too many fans of NASCAR lurk here, but I need to relieve some steam...
Yes, the Talladega BIG wreck happened, 27 cars involved, and no, Jeremy Mayfield did NOT get involved, so why am I pissed? Well, for the first time NASCAR has showned how biased it can be. And that really pisses me off as a fan. They stated as a rule that if a driver improves his position by going below the yellow line, they are penalized...this is something to prevent big wrecks from happening. And Dale Earnhardt Jr., did that...he went below the yellow line, improved his position with 3 laps to go, and nearly caused a wreck. Why wasnt he penalized from NASCAR and why wasnt he forced to make a mandatory stop and go pitstop? I dont know. He clearly went below the yellow line and wasnt penalized. But since his father was killed in an accident, he has been the fan-favorite and sentimental favorite. And because he wasnt penalized for CLEARLY breaking a rule today, he won. Let me vocally show my disproval to the way NASCAR has handled this. BOOO NASCAR. BOO. You should be ashamed of yourself for stealing a victory away from Kevin Harvick, who I dont particularly like that much, but he didnt break any rules today and deserved the victory.
Boo, Nascar...boo.

Dallas clinched the Western Conference title, while Colorado takes the Northwest Division for the ninth straight time thanks to a Vancouver loss. Peter Forsberg wins the scoring title, while Milan Hejduk wins the goals scored title. A grand day for Colorado indeed.
"It's not whether you get knocked down, it's if you get back up."
Amidst scenes of confusion in the pit lane the Brazilian grand prix ended after being red flagged in the 55th lap, following an enormous accident. As the race had covered more than 75 percent of total distance, the results were declared (in accordance with the regulations) from the 53rd lap. Meaning that McLaren’s Kimi Raikkonen was awarded the win, his second from two races, with Jordan’s Giancarlo Fisichella second and Renault’s Fernando Alonso in third.
Unfortunately it was an accident involving Alonso that had brought out the red flag. The Spaniard had suffered a massive crash after hitting debris left by an earlier heavy shunt involving Jaguar’s Mark Webber. Although he got out of his Renault himself, Alonso was clearly shaken by the accident and left the track in an ambulance, missing the podium ceremony.
The race was marked by a high rate of attrition with several spectacular accidents as drivers left the wet track and no fewer than four periods of running under the safety car. Ferrari's Rubens Barrichello suffered from cruel misfortune yet again, retiring from the lead after his Ferrari shut down. McLaren's David Coulthard was almost equally unlucky - he pitted from the lead just before the race was red flagged and was pushed down to fourth in the final classification.
Although the heavy rain from earlier in the day had stopped by the time the race began, the track remained very wet throughout - especially through turn 3 where standing water caused no fewer than six drivers to crash out, including Michael Schumacher. The world champion will be keen to forget what has been his worst race weekend for some time.
Final results (as yet unofficial):
1. Kimi Raikkonen - McLaren - Lap 53
2. Giancarlo Fisichella - Jordan - + 0.8 secs
3. Fernando Alonso - Renault - + 6.6 secs
4. David Coulthard - McLaren - + 7.3 secs
5. Heinz-Harald Frentzen - Sauber - + 9.3 secs
6. Jacques Villeneuve - BAR - + 17.9 secs
