Vengeance of the Heart -- Discussion Thread
The eternal debate...how far should you go with another's character...(sigh)
@Azmodan: A ranger in 3rd Ed. starts with one racial enemy at first level, and gains another every five levels. Right now, our characters as a group are about level 5. Rangers also gain the ability to cast level 1 spells at level 6 in 3rd Ed., so maybe that's something you can consider in terms of future character development.

Well....casting a spell, reading his minds on let him do other actions within one post goes WAY to far for me. No matter who are what he is holding back....

You specifically said in your last post that you intened to help the unconscious Lilth, so I followed up on what you had stated you were planning. On top of that, how is casting a spell in defence, especially one which would be a likly candidate for an illusonist to cast, so wrong? If you think much liberties have been taken with how I wrote in what happend, then perhaps you should read through some of the previous stories.
Because this is not an actual PnP experiance, the other writers are expected, if not entitled, to write the other characters from time to time, as long as nothing drastic happens. I have writen nothing drastic towards your character, as I had stated by saying that he was merely rendered unconscious.
Anyway, if it's that much of an issue for you, I will change it, but that will seriously affect what I am trying to acheive here.

It is...
and may be your post seriously affected what I was trying to achieve....you don't know.
I have read all the posts, but none goes as far as yours when it comes to taking over one's character. I also have expierence with this type of RPG, and I know when someone crosses the line. Sorry to say this Aegis, but I really think you did.
BTW: If had posted before...I wouldn't have rendered uncouncious, so how were you planning on 'achieving your goal' then?
And as I stated before....I had to throw away an entire post where I worked very hard on....took me a lot of time

You must realize that part of the issue here is that you neglected to even post something in the discussion thread, and I let it stand for sometime before I continued. Now, as for the unconscious things, that doesn't overly affect my idea, what affects it the fact I have to rewrite that post now, with a different inside to it.Originally posted by Rudar Dimble

By rendering him unconscious, I did the best thing I could, considering the circumstances of your lack of posting. I could've easily done something worse. But, considering I don't have a good enough grasp on your character, as yet, I used what I knew, and that was that he is a gnome, and an illusionist. What did you want me to do? Blast the enraged elf with a massive fireball? Seems a bit out of character for an illusionist, and a bit unrealistic given the time in which this was happening.
Remember, my goal isn't as a villian. I have some set ideas in motion, and trying to create some interesting party dissention when they finally start working together.
And towards your first comment, I suggest you reread many of the posts then, because there have been many times characters have been written in by other participants, and done much more drastic/important things, without the other person's influence. In all retrospect, I have done nothing wrong. I merely stated a simple defence, and given a plausible, and preferable outcome. Unconsciousness does not always last hours.

I have reread many of the posts, and I don't think any of them is a drastic as yours...
I'm not going to repeat everything again, the last thing I want to say about this matter is:
please don't mess with my character anymore like that. You said yourself: you don't have a good grasp on him, so don't touch him.....it's my character. And you COULD have PM-ed me...
and don't go throwing around with: "lack of posting..." etc. you can really piss people of with that stuff, since you don't know the reason they don't post. It is not up to you to decide what to do with people that are 'MIA'....it's up to the DM

And with that said, it's blatently obvious of your experiance with these types of stories. I simply do not have the time for discussions like this, therefore feel it may be best that I do not participate at all within this story. If you're that uptight about some minor things I wrote your character as doing, the perhaps you should really reconsider your involvment as well, becase it doesn't seem that you're suited for an activity such as this, because it requires others characters to be controlled in a such a manner from time to time, and quite often, in far more dire circumstances and situations.Originally posted by Rudar Dimble

Rob, I'm sorry, but right now, I'm giving serious thought to leaving. I think you've been doing a fine job, and will look forward to seeing the whole story play out, but the way things are looking, I will be more of a burden then anything else. In my experiance, it's best not to have people work together, when they cannot see eye to eye.

I don't want to loose any one of you since I feel the bolth of you contribute to the story.
Please don't do anything hasty since I feel we can work this out.
It isn't an as big problem as it may now appear to be.
I prefer to talk about this with the bolth of you on msn and I think it's best for me not to respond about this here more then I did with this.

Contraversy....
Come on guys, lets not think about leaving or anything...everybody has been doing a great job, dont let this momentary lapse make anyone go running away. Things will work out, I guarentee you. So Aegis, Rudar, please dont go. If either of you go, youll be really hurting everyone else in the story and will weaken our standpoint.
As a favor to me, and everybody involved, please dont leave. We can build on this if we are strong, and I know we all are.
My POV-well I thought Aegis talked to Rudar about all this before hand, which would have been the correct thing. We previously agreed that we would not mess with eachothers characters. BUT that doesnt mean we should be getting into a dispute. If we just agree that we dont go too deep into other's characters movements, and learn from this, people can be happy and the story could move on and be better then before
I am still learning on how to write, and Im enjoying it with every step. And if people start leaving like that, I will feel completely lost and discouraged. So please, dont leave, either of you. It has been a pleasure working with EVERYONE involved and would hate to see anyone go.

I was about to write something nice to Aegis. Something that could work this whole thing out, but after reading his last post on this thread I think I'd better not comment on that right now. I could say things I'd might regret later on....

Its the better man who puts the weapons down and embraces the opposition. To forgive and move on speaks levels of the person. To turn the cheek and learn the follies of yourself and others makes everyone smarter in the end.
What Im trying to say is, bury the hatchet and things will improve. Ive met Magus because of the story, and Ive known everyone else here before the story. And I consider you all stand up people and friends. Lets not let something minor like this destroy this. And no matter the outcome, you will still be my friends, but as a friend, I urge everyone to move on. Learn and accept.
Are we going to let something as minor as this really act like acid and disintigrate companionship? Look at the situation, and please note how easily we can overcome this.
Peace.
Walter

It thought about the situation almost the entire time while working this morning and I decided to write this (it is a nice addition to the previous post of Tyb):
Let's not take this thing to a personal level ("it's blatently obvious of your experiance with these types of stories" and "lack of posting"...these things can be said in 'better' and nicer words). We are all here to have fun. And let's all remember that what seems a minor issue to you, can be a big one for another. People are different and think different (thank God they do). Respect that.
Now for my role in this:
I regret my post about "it's my character, don't touch it". I was a bit pissed off because it didn't seem like Aegis understood what my point was. So I exaggerated it...well...you could say...too much. Sorry for that. Off course I understand that sometimes you need to take over another character. The story would evolve very slowly if you couldn't. But my point was, that when you do it in a way Aegis did with Gurdio (about 50% of his post he was Gurdio and not his own characters) you should PM that person. Just a simple PM like: "I would like to cast a spell with your character, is that OK?" or "I want to do something crazy/funny/exciting with you character. Is that OK, or did you have an important move prepared?". This prevents that people have to throw away posts they have worked pretty hard on.
And for that 'not posting for a while'-part, which was also a reason Aegis took over my character....I really think that is up to the DM to decide. If the reason for taking over a character is due to MIA of the player, the DM is the one that should take it over or the one that permits another to use the character.
But I should have posted at least something in the discussion thread the last week.....Aegis is right about that
I hope this settles the matter. I know it does for me. No hard feelings. Just continue the story. Hell, this thing multiplied the length of this thread by 2 or 3 already.....
VotH rules!!!!
Peace
Rudar

Considering what everyone has said, and that I've spoken with everyone (minus Fas), I will stay. Magus managed to talk some sense into me. I realize that you're still new to this thing, and that perhaps I took one step too far, considering that. It seems that you have an understanding of what I said, so thats good, and Tybs was able to explain your side a little bit more in depth.
Well it's good that this turned out alright.
Now that we seem to have put our differences aside, we should decide how to correct the matter. To me, the easiest way to solve this would be for Gurdio simply to have faked unconsciousness, if that's alright with Rudar. Deceptions don't always have to be magical in nature.
Lost Souls: A bereft lover. A masterless familiar. Friends gone their separate ways. Time marches on, and destiny heralds the meeting of comrades old and new. Can they find what they're seeking? Or will the search bring them only more pain?
Wahey! Im glad its settled and we can go back to the way it was.
Every group seems to go through its conflicts at one time or another and the strong groups make the best of it and overcome it. Im happy it could be resolved in a civil and fair manner. Well done.
Now....back to the other, more fun chaos going on....the story.

I decided with Rob-hin yesterday that we wouldn't change anything about the story. I'll just be knock-out for the rest of the battle, which, Rob-hin assured, wouldn't take long....

Yep, I wrote the ending just now.
Before I'll post it, I'll wait for a responce since I'll use someone's character...
@Azmodan
Sorry for the delay. I was kind of busy.
I'll pm you that short recap later.
We can introduce your character togeter or you can introduce it yourself if you like. I'll work with it.
Glad to have you on board.
