A Monk Question

Ok as much as i know monks will loose the ability to perform thier skills when wearing armor or weapons. But what armor counts as an armor? do the restrictions only include body armor or anything u can wear like a helmet or boots. thanks for your help

a monk that wears body armor that needs an armor proficiency, or a shield that needs a shield proficiency, or using any weapon- looses all of his abilities...
