Excellent review of the race, oki. I watched it at 10 pm last night...all F-1 races here are tape delayed, but its better then the last few years when they werent even aired at all. Speed channel does a great job covering local races and world races. But, I was surprised by the constant accidents and Webber's and Alonso's last lap wreck....that was scary...Im very pleased to see Alonso is ok after such a bone-rattling hit. But he hit the debris well after the accident...about 1 minute IIRC...that is one thing that has to be fixed. It reminds me of the wreck in the ARCA series where a driver wrecked into a wrecked car 30 seconds after the wrecked car came to a complete stop, but because the second car didnt have a spotter on the track, she didnt know the other driver had crashed where he was. So she went straight into the wrecked car, injured herself and killed the driver in the other car. Things need to be done to warn the drivers of things on the track...NASCAR seems to have that covered with multiple spotters.Originally posted by oki101
Amidst scenes of confusion in the pit lane the Brazilian grand prix ended after being red flagged in the 55th lap, following an enormous accident. As the race had covered more than 75 percent of total distance, the results were declared (in accordance with the regulations) from the 53rd lap. Meaning that McLaren’s Kimi Raikkonen was awarded the win, his second from two races, with Jordan’s Giancarlo Fisichella second and Renault’s Fernando Alonso in third.
Unfortunately it was an accident involving Alonso that had brought out the red flag. The Spaniard had suffered a massive crash after hitting debris left by an earlier heavy shunt involving Jaguar’s Mark Webber. Although he got out of his Renault himself, Alonso was clearly shaken by the accident and left the track in an ambulance, missing the podium ceremony.
The race was marked by a high rate of attrition with several spectacular accidents as drivers left the wet track and no fewer than four periods of running under the safety car. Ferrari's Rubens Barrichello suffered from cruel misfortune yet again, retiring from the lead after his Ferrari shut down. McLaren's David Coulthard was almost equally unlucky - he pitted from the lead just before the race was red flagged and was pushed down to fourth in the final classification.
Although the heavy rain from earlier in the day had stopped by the time the race began, the track remained very wet throughout - especially through turn 3 where standing water caused no fewer than six drivers to crash out, including Michael Schumacher. The world champion will be keen to forget what has been his worst race weekend for some time.
Re: Webber: Sorry Tam. He had a good car early and was able to keep up with early leaders Coulthard, Barrichelo, Montoya, and Schumacher...too bad. Good thing he's ok after the wreck though. And he proves that Jaguar has potential and could be a serious competitor soon.
As far as the fact they reverted the field to the way it was 2 laps before the caution as opposed to 1 lap, I must say I disagree with this...Why is it 2 laps? 1 lap would make much more sense, therefor people who made rightful passes wont get punished for it...Fisichella deserved the victory, and he lost it because of a rule F-1 MUST look into...Still...a VERY exciting race...you never knew what was going to happen next. Got to hand it to Fisichella. He was 1 lap away from a HUGE upset and a victory for Jordan.

Here is a link about FIA stance on the current rules. It doesn't really bother me as its finally interesting to watch formula 1 again.
!
Anybody got any picks for who'll get through to the next round?
Well, here are mine (these are just based on my favorite out of the two teams, maybe I'll post more in depth picks later) :
Ottawa vs NY Islanders : Ottawa
New Jersey vs Boston : Boston
Tampa Bay vs Washington : Tampa Bay
Philadelphia vs Toronto : Toronto
Dallas vs Edmonton : Edmonton
Detroit vs Anaheim : Detroit
Colorado vs Minnesota : Minnesota
Vancouver vs St. Louis : Vancouver

IF Toronto beats Philadelphia (GO LEAFS GO!!!!!!), than I think Ottawa and Toronto will meet in the conference finals. If that happens, it will be interesting to see, cause the Leafs have beat the Senators in the past 3 years in the playoffs.
Even though I'd like the see the Leafs do it this year, I think the Senators deserve the Cup. They won the President's Trophy, and with the probable move their team will go through next year, I think it's only right that Ottawa wins.
My picks:
Ottawa vs NY Islanders : Ottawa in 7 (NYI is a rough team, as the Leafs found out last year)
New Jersey vs Boston : New Jersey in 4
Tampa Bay vs Washington : Washington in 5
Philadelphia vs Toronto : Toronto in 7 (Toronto will prevail, I think, but its going to be a nasty series, as it always is with the Leafs and half the teams in the NHL)
Dallas vs Edmonton : Dallas in 6
Detroit vs Anaheim : Detroit in 5
Colorado vs Minnesota : Colorado in 6 (Colorado will have a rough start, I think)
Vancouver vs St. Louis : Vancouver in 7 (Canucks might fall apart in some games)
One final note. GO TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS!!!!!!!

If nothing we do matters, then all that matters is what we do.
Ottawa vs. Islanders: Ottawa in 6
New Jersey vs. Boston: Jersey in 7
Tampa Ba vs. Washington: Washington in 6
Phili vs. Toronto: Toronto in 7, and with half the team bruised up
Dallas vs. Edmonton: Edmonton in 7. I like Dallas, and they're a good team, but for some reason, I see Edmonton making a very good showing
Detroit vs. Anaheim: Detroit in 4. Detroit has skill and finesse. Anaheim had a decent year.
Colorado vs. Minnesota: Colorado in 6. With the injuries, it'll be rough, but doable.
Vancouver vs. St. Louis: Vancouver in 5. Naslund, Bertuzzi and Morrison will being ripping wholes in the mesh.
New Jersey vs. Boston: Jersey in 7
Tampa Ba vs. Washington: Washington in 6

F-1 news:
Officials are reviewing the F-1 race, and are thinking of giving the victory to Fisichelli. Hope is still alive for the underdog, and I say GIVE IT TO HIM! He rightfully passed Kimi and was filled with so much joy. He did everything right. Should he be punished for that? So the officials are thinking about changing that, and I applaud them for putting it under review. Officials are saying the countback may have been on the wrong lap, and they are looking into it.
NASCAR, of course, is doing nothing about the yellow line incident, and Earnhardt Jr. keeps the victory, of course.

Oh I hope they don't A podium stand should remain the same regardless of how controversial or in this case how inept the FIA were. Plus I'm becoming a Kimi fan

This weeks CL results:
Real Madrid - Manchester United 3-1
Ajax - AC Milan 0-0
Juventus - Barcelona 1-1
Inter Milan - Valencia 1-0
Did anyone watch the Real Madrid - Man United game. Real put on a display worthy of the players in their team. They had some moments when they were playing fantastic football. A real joy to watch.
Now I see why "Sir" Alex Ferguson claims that the quarter-final draws were "made-up"...

3. 7 Petter SOLBERG (N)

4. 2 Richard BURNS (GB)

5. 3 Harri ROVANPERÄ (FIN)

6. 18 Sébastien LOEB (F)
Citroen Xsara +1:26.2
7. 8 Tommi MÄKINEN (FIN)
Subaru Impreza WRC2003 +1:29.4
Once again Marcus Gronholm seems to be the stronger driver in the field. After winning 6 of 8 stages he has managed to get a decent lead on his biggest rivals.
Meanwhile Märtin and Solberg are fighting for what seems to be second place, with Burns gaining on them on the last stages of the day.
Also impressive of Mäkinen, finishing day 1 on 8th position despite being somewhat sick.
Big dissapointment for Colin McRae, having to retire from the race at SS7, after pushing too hard in a turn and losing his race line. This lead to a broken wheel base, and he barely managed to finish the stage.. But with 3 more stages before the next service area he had to call it a day.
Of the not-factory drivers Manfred Stohl (Austria) and Kristian Kolberg (Norway) are making impressive results so far. They are nr 9 and 11 so far
If you want to check out for yourself here is the official pages. They are being updated with day 2 results as I type this.
