When i rate a thread nothing seems to happen.
When dous a thread gain stars?
I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.

I think it has to have multiple votes.
Or else everyone would vote max stars for there own thread.

Then it picks the average.

I wonderd about this myself, i have only rated a few thread because i keep forgetting about it, most threads don't have any rating next to them, perhaps it is user specific and your own ratings are kept to your own account rather than an average for everyone to view.

I don't really use ratings...

Well, I rated almost no thread, but I still get ratings showing for threads I'm sure I've not rated, so they can't be kept only on one's own account.

As stated in the f.a.q of these forums:

How do I rate a thread?

You may find a small menu on thread pages which allows you to 'rate this thread' with a number between 1-5.

Casting a vote for threads you view is entirely optional, but if you think that the thread is superb, you might rate it as a 5-star thread, or if you think that it's unspeakably dismal, you might choose to rate the thread with a single star.

Once enough votes have been cast for the thread rating, you may see a set of stars appear with the title of the thread in the thread listings. These stars reflect the average vote cast, and can allow you to quickly see which threads are worth reading if you are on a very busy board with a lot of threads.

Since there's a topic already on this subject, I thought I'd bump it. There seems to be a bug in the ratings system where any rated thread is given 5 stars. For example, in SYM right now the Anatomy thread has an average rating of 2.67, however it displays 5 stars. I can't remember the last time I saw a thread with anything but 5 or no stars...

But that could just be because nobody bothers rating a thread unless they think it's really great and they're going to give it 5 stars. (Doesn't explain if it has an average of 2.67 though...)

There are others - on the first SYM page:

SYM Diplomacy: 3.67 - 5 stars
DF Discussion thread 3: 1.00 - 5 stars ( )

I was hoping that this would be fixed when I went through all the icons and redid them. Let me know if you still see more problems with this.
