Iwd 101

Post by Mister Popo »

I'm playing through IWD I now for the first time round and I'm begining to notice I'm playing like my BG solo mage thief game.

I'm just constantly hiding in shadows, drawing enemies to my party one by one (in the case of BG this was drawing them into area of effect spells) or just backstabbing the hell out of them.

It works terribly well, but I would like to give the game some edge, as the fighting is what IWD makes IWD (the story is great, but its not submerging me in a other world, with BG 1 and 2 or IWD II I was reading a digital book, if somebody gets me.)

So how, I already discovered my druid as a nice shapeshifting tank, but I would like to 'master' the game so to speak.

BTW does anybody agree with me that Bards are really cool?

I'm currently playing the game with Rudar (co-op) and even though I'm not super impresed with the story, I think its better to multiplay this game then BG.
We use the same tactic you use and I would like some more full scale fights, but I'm enjoying it very muck anyway. :)

Bards suck in 2e edition ad&d rules. :p

Having all your characters multiclassed to fighter helps a lot. It means that none of them have to rely on spells and instead can use ranged weapons well too.

Mmmmm, that's a good tactic.
I came to the conclusion that missile weapons are still to good, just like in BG I

@Rob-hin, don't know, what makes them better in 3ed, I just like his high lore, his Composite Longbow and his few spells(mostly I use just the fire arrows and magic missiles)

Install HoW. Enemies rush you en masse and bards *truly* rock. ;)

Trials of the Luremaster brings you a major dungeoncrawl. Pretty good. Pretty tough, too.

One tip: don't wait with dual classing until level 13. :D

Should I Dualclass, it brings my exp. rate down and at the moment I have good weapons for everyone.

Or should I just dualclass my bard, thief and cleric.

This is not 3rd Edition. You do not receive a multiclass XP penalty. Rather, you get more levels for less XP when you dual (or multy) due to the fact that you pay for the levels of the second class as if they belonged to a separate character (that is, starting from 1, unlike 3rd Edition, which adds all levels together).

Ahhh, it works with the BGII dualclass rules then, I thought it worked with BGI rules, in which it's not really recommended to dualclass in the early levels.

Damn, I can't get in Kaylessa's tower... The load screen comes up and then stops loading, I've downloaded the patch, rebooted and the like, but it doesn't help.

Has anybody got an idea?

Sorry, my bad, I was a bit confused because of the huge diferences betweem 3ed D&D rules and 2nd.

IWD II has a totaly different system and I thought that this system was meant.

Sorry Image
