Just a few more newb questions (so sorry!)

Post by Rontu Aru »

Hey hey, its been bugging me lately when I should dual my kensai to mage, but i decided to do it at level 13.
One thing is that, im gonna have to wait until level 14 by the time i get to enjoy the kensai again? By the time i get lvl 14 mage wouldn't that be near the end of the game since its about the max xp? just curuious because i want to play most of the game as a kensai/mage instead of just a mage.

Also what is an sk? i see it mentioned a lot, seems to be some sort of hack.

Thanks a lot in advance!! :)

Yes, if you dual at lvl 13 it will take a large part of the game to get back your kensai abilities. If you want, you can dual class him at lvl 9, and even though you won't be quite as good at fighting, he will still be a very strong character.

SK is an abbreviation for shadowkeeper, a program to edit characters and saved games. Here is a link to their website.
If I asked, would you answer? Its your problem. Its a deep, deep problem. I have no way to ask about that... I have no elegant way of stepping into your heart without tracking in filth. So I will wait. Someday, when you want to tell me, tell me then. -Bleach

But if uyou have throne of Bhaal installed you can get more xp(naturaly) and cool abilites. And if you wanted you could duel him at like lvl11 or maybe 12. It dosnt seem like a big dif in levels but I think it is, since the neccesary xp amount to lvl up doubles every time you lvl up. Not to be condesceding :D

My suggestions:
SoA only game: dual at 9
SoA + ToB, with a small party (faster levelling up): dual at 12 or 13

My suggestion, FWIW: don't worry about the calculations. Find characters whose personalities you think would make them great companions in a party, and wander around, taking odd quests, talking to everybody, and enjoying the sights. As this is your first game, I wouldn't suggest playing it according to a step-by-step guide--but hell, it's your choice. :)

You can also try soloing until you rack up a bunch of xp, and only then recruit additional party members :) .

Though, I would concur with Fable. The party interactions and roleplaying are an important part of what make this a really great game. ;)

Fable said it, and i too recommend that you enjoy the game and don't look at any walkthroughs... when i first played the game, i missed half the stuff, but it was the best one naturally... after that i've finished the game 10 times with instructions(and knowing where to go, what to do, and believe me, it wasn't half as fun as the first time) if there was just some way to make yourself forget what happens during every quest... but hey, your game, your rules, :D

I do not agree, finding out that you can't reactivate the old class would be too frustrating even
the first time through the game.
A few calculations are really needed, after all you are warned even when you press the dual-button ;)

Dual classes

Dual when you please, but there are some logical milestones. Kensai get +1 THAC0 & Damage every four levels, and, being fighters, get a new weapon proficiency every three. So 8, 9 and 12 are logical levels to dual at. 8&9 will permit a straight SoA mage to get high enough level to use level 8 spells, 12 will not.

On the EXP side of things, 12 will take a while - you'll probably be heading to spellhold by the time you revert, even if you have tactics mod and do all the side quests. I'm just doing a 12 Kensai/thief in tactics, and she got her kensai abilities back in Chapter 2, but I've done virtually all side quests & it's nearly time to face Bodhi. Dualing at 8&9 will permit a straight SoA mage to get high enough level to use level 8 spells, 12 will not.

My 2 gold worth, YMMV
I have given up all lesser evils as inadequate to my purpose.
