dual class question

Post by Eriks »

I am still a little fuzzy on dual classing. I guess I would understand it a lot better if the following question was answered:

Say I am a Kensai and I want to dual into a mage, before dualing I had grand mastery in the use of a katana. Now, when I dual I lose all my stars... will I ever get them back?

If I remember correctly you will get the grandmastery back when you're level surpasses the original kensai level.
I would undoubtedly prefer the former...or the latter.

thanks :)

what about everything else? If I dual to mage at say... level 9 then will I have to play as a level 1 mage in BG2?! How would I survive? or be of any use?

Yes

You start as a level 1 mage with really good hitpoints.

Don't forget, you'll blast through those early levels pretty fast - just memorizing a few scrolls will get you out of level 1. You will, however, be very weak untill you get close to your original level, so the rest of the group will have to pick up the slack - basically, you're an EXP sponge for a while. That's the deal with dual classing.

Remember, you DO retain original class limitations, so you can't use darts or bracers as a mage, and appropriate limitations apply to other dual class combos - for instance a Kensai dualed to thief can't backstab with weapons a thief can't use.

The best way to get a feel is to do it, and try it out. Game saves make it easy to revert.

Have fun!
I have given up all lesser evils as inadequate to my purpose.
