Beastmaster RPG????
Beastmaster RPG????
anyone know of a RPG like IWD2, BGII, etc...
that allows you to have beasts in your party? would it not be cool to have a chimera or even wyverns, giants, undead ^__^
i can deal with the mostly linear aspects of these games, but this would really add some flavor....

I moved this to a more appropriate forum since it really has nothing to do with IWD2.
BG2 lets you have familiars and summoned/charmed monsters.
I'm sure some of the more offbeat games let you have peculiar characters.
Ever tried "Disciples"? Its RPG strategy but you can play such monsters in your parties - even Undead and Infernal. Bit dated and simplistic though.
Lonelywolf - what have I told you about pointless posts that don't answer the question and add nothing to the discussion? If you simply waited for a good response you might add "thanks, I wanted to know too" for encouragement.

uh, well, other than temporarily charming animals etc., the only RPG I know of that lets you have monsters and suchlike in your party is Final Fantasy Tactics, but that's probably not what you're looking for

ELVES RULE!!!!!
played tactics, liked that application
but I really find this hard to believe??
absolutely no games even remotely close??
the reason i posted this in the IWD forum, is because I enjoy the black isle engine (as played out as it is) and that i think it would work well with that platform, to hell with the strict D&D III adherance...
anyone else think raising a beast like a dragon, werewolf, golem, even evil creatures ^__^...
atlus did this well with the tactics ogre series....

true, ogre battle did have the feature, albeit not to a great degree, but I've yet to play tactics ogre unfortunately. it is a feature that could be interesting, like familliars but to a greater degree of autonomy.
come to think of it, there is that wierd strategy RPG Magic & Mayhem, but it's not very good.

There is a free indie game called Ahriman's Prophecy where you can have a shapeshifter in your party. He is pretty deadly when he changes into a dragon. It's not like Baldur's Gate, it's inspired from Japanese RPGs like Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior.
Don't expect anything "epic" though, I truly loved the game and recommend it, but you might get disappointed if your expectations are too high since it's no masterpiece. The game is free, so you have nothing to loose by trying it.

How specific to iwd/bg do you want?
Its console and its date, but you can get a couple 'animal' companions in both Shining Force I and II. its more like an RPG Tactics game, but one of the best of it's time. Of course you can get Dogmeat in both fallout turn based rpgs - part II has some cool 'beast' characters too. They play a very minor role but it is a game that truly changed the type of games i like.
A more diabloesque game with 'pets' is fate - which is amazingly addictive.
I think some of the Final Fantasy consoles have some good summoner characters too, but that seems a little outside what your asking for which I've already done enough of.

Actually, there's a whole series devoted to exactly that. The Geneforge-Series. You can play a Shaper there, a class that can create all sorts of creatures out of basically nothing and command them (well, strictly speaking, other classes can have these abilities as well, but, oh, whatever).spillmind wrote: absolutely no games even remotely close??
