Cleric's Spells

Post by Fearless »

My Cleric reached level 15 and was offered further spells at level 7 & 8, and I selected the following, Greater Restoration and Resurrection, but when I returned to the game, preparing for the final battle, they were dimed out and I am told "unable to use as he did not have sufficient skills.

WHY offer them if your character can't use them, bit pointless really.

The only reason I can think of causing you not being able to use them is your wisdom is not high enough. All spellcasters (be it arcane or divine) need their primary stat (this being wisdom in the case of a cleric) need their wisdom at 10 + spell level to be able to use spells of a certain level. Meaning you need 17 and 18 wisdom to be able to use lvl 7 and 8 spells.

But that's not all. The number of spells per level is also dependant on wisdom. Can't remember the exact numbers and don't feel like looking for the manual, but if your wisdom is 17, for example, you'll only be able to use one or two lvl 7 spells, whereas a character with 20 wisdom would be able to use more of them from that same level.

Spell selection is always made during level ups (no other way except when you're a mage or specialist mage and can learn from scrolls), and it's necessary that you select them, because your wisdom could go up a point or two from a special item, for example, and then you would be able to use the spells you mentioned.

Cleric Spells

Thanks for the reply, and don't think that I don't appreciate your advice, but we are talking about a computer here and IT knows what level you'r at so why offer you something you cant use. you see IT knows what wisdom and your level is, in fact it knows every thing about you (character).

Is there any thing that can be done, I'm at chapter six and need those spells. I've killed every thing in sight EXCEPT Xvim. :o

maybe you're right, but the game dosen't depend just on the computer, the fun is that YOU control the charecters. so i don't think you'll find help, because YOU are supposed to know your charecter's details...
sorry...

Cleric Spells

I swear this is the last time I mention this subject.

I think the point is being missed here.

I level up to 15, and I say this is great I wonder what I get for this level, and I look at the spell slots and the COMPUTER says
you can choose one spell. I say great I'll have that one please
which happend to be "Resurrection" (it could have been any spell at that level). I then rest, and when I look in my cleric's spell slots it is dimmed out and saying you do not have enough skill to use it. What I am saying is, knowing that I do not have sufficient skil at that level, why offer it to me in the first place?

As I said before, I've killed everything in the building that is worth killing except Xvim. I am close to going up to level 16, so I desparately need some more points, so I am going back to Kuldahar and kill that dragon guardian. I think now that I'm a bit more experienced that I might be able to kill this time.

You've missed my point as well. The computer always gives you a selection of spells at certainl levels exactly because it's a computer. If you were playing P&P, you perhaps wouldn't need to choose them. But since it's on the computer, and the game is made in a way that you can choose new spells only at level up, you have to choose them even if you're unable to use them, because your wisdom could go up any time. And if you weren't able to pick them, you'd have to wait until next level up, which at higher levels can be quite a lot of time. Think of it as insurance. And live with it.
