I prefer to store my stuff in the Balmora Mage's Guild - right next to rapid transport. I put the alchemy ingredients in the wardrobe, and leave everything else on the floor and table.
There's nothing a little poison couldn't cure...
What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

I also use Creepers place for my equipment storage. Once you've talked the Orc into carving the new statue he leaves the upstairs vacant. There is plenty of storage space and you can loot the orcish armor and other goodies and sell them to Creeper. There's even some gold coins up on the rafters. I use the two Caldera merchants for just about everything except books and alchemy gear. Plus, if you have the propylon index plug-in loaded the Caldera mages guild becomes even a better place to start your travels. By placing your mark in front of Creeper you can recall back to him with your overloaded stash of looted goodies. Drop a few hammers on the ground as well so you can repair items before selling them (more money plus armorer skill practice).
I use the Balmora Council Club for all my alchemy gear as it has plenty of storage, two bedrooms, etc. You can even start using the closet for this before killing the Commona Tong thugs. Later, when the club has been purged, you can clean out all the junk and use the rest of the place. I make it a practice to kill anyone who admits to belonging to the Commona Tong. I also kill anyone who admits to being an assassin but is not a member of the Morag Tong as these guys are probably Dark Brotherhood thugs.

i can't say enough good things about a mark within clicking distance of creeper.
still for storage i go back to balmora, and the home from the "brandy" thief quest, plenty of storage in the corner there, a bed upstairs, and close to the mage guild and the alchemy shop...
I used that big assed mansion that is located in the northern part of balmora next to the clothier and the fine alchemist. the person who owns it was murdered and after you off the servant you have alot of room to work with. for example: http://www.angelfire.com/rpg2/edscampagn/loot.htm the pictures will be brighter soon
