I am having some serious trouble killing the Balor in the Underdark. If you don't know what I am talking about, it is the monster that the deep gnomes with the long wierd name that starts with an S, ask you to kill. I can't seem to do any damage to it... any suggestions on what damages it? What is it immune to? Any other tactics on taking it out? This is my 3rd time through the game and I killed it before, but I can't remember how
Anyway, thanks for any help in advance!
Balor *Possible Minor Spoiler*
I remember using summons in the frontline (mordaiken's sword and skeleton warrior), casting haste and resist fear. The moment he appeared I started hacking and slashing. Direct magic attacks were pretty useless. Lowering his MR would therefore be a good thing.

How to kill him all depends on what spells you have....... Time Stop....and he's as good as dead..... Magic Trigger...same thing...just blast him with 2 lower MR and then use finger of death or any other damage spell and you should do great , if you have a planetar (need TOB for this) then summon it and it will sometime instakill the balor

Have summons up front and your tanks with haste and resist fear. Add all your usual buffs (Bless, Chant, Protection from Evil). Have them hack away when he arrives.
Also, have your cleric cast Bolt of Glory, if he/she has it. It deals 10d6 damage to demons.
Have your mages in the back casting 2 or 3 spells to lower the magic resistance, and pummel him with spells (Magic Missile works well, as each missile gets its own check to see if its resisted or not).

I usually set as many traps as possible on his spawn site, use protection from evil and be ready to cast spells that strip or lower his magic resistances. I find the summoned creatures just get in the way and don't do any real damage to him.

Bah, push over
Well, not really. The only summons for the Svirfneblin's monster that I'd bother with are M-Swords and Skeletal warriors - both are highly magic resistant and can keep him busy while your mages debuff. Then dump everything you have on him.
A melee-heavy party can just haste up & beat him down.
Alternatively, trap his spawn point & watch him fold up like a paper doll, especially if you have spike traps

I have given up all lesser evils as inadequate to my purpose.
