wolfwere druid (not werewolf)
wolfwere druid (not werewolf)
I have an interesting setup for the druid class but need to get this off my concience since I am feeling a bit regretful and guilty. I really like the shapechange spell that mages get at spell level 9 and wanted to replace the crappy shapeshifts that all the druids get with these. So I hacked the standard druid class and removed all of his shapeshifting abilities and replaced them with the shapechange spell ability so he can cast this spell 10 times a day (since the form only lasts for 5 turns where his original shapeshifts lasted forever). I notice that in his wolfwere form he gets immunity to +1 and less weapons and regenerates at 8 hit points a second. that really is the only plus side. The bad side of this is that he has way less ac then the greater werewolf and gets hit way more often as well as that he has worse thaco since his strength is weaker as well. Also the greater werewolf form you could have dialogue with npc's where with greater wolfwere you cannot talk to any npc's nor stay in the form for very long. Also the greater wolfwere only hits with +1 weapon (paw) whereas the greater werewolf hits at +2 weapon (paw). So I guess that there are drawbacks to using this form vs. the other. Now also I know that why don't I just dual class a fighter, kensai or berserker to mage and have the greater wolfwere form become more effective. I want to play the druid and would really like him to have the shapechange spell ability. So my question is would this be really cheating and making the druid too powerful by giving him 10x a day shapechange spell and removing all of his innate shapeshifting abilities? I need other opinions on this so I can evaluate my moral obligations to playing fair. Thanks
I'd say: go for it.....if you think your gaming experience becomes more fun this way, then I dont see any problems.
I think most people here edit their character at least a bit. I know I do, and not only my PC.......I also edit the NPC's. I make my pc in the way I like him best and which suits me the best.
For example......I play an Archer and I edit his abilities a bit, so he becomes stronger. To compensate this I've lowered his hitpoint a couple of times and I dont let him wear any magical items (rings, belts, cloaks which give +2 to armor or something like that).
However, if you edit you druid.......make sure he doesnt become overpowered, your gaming experience can seriously be ruined this way.
Edit, but edit with caution

I would reduce the number of times the shapechange can be made. While it is true, as you say, that the druid innate ability lasts longer than the spell, you cannot toggle back and forth with impunity. This implies a certain budgeting of the ability that I think will be destroyed by having so many uses available. Experiment with it and see if it unbalances the game.
Otherwise, I think the mod sounds reasonable.

actually, i've learned that even if you boot up your character's stats and stuff like that, things become harder.
*POSSIBLE SPOILER*
in the red dragon stronghold, there are 2 liches there(one in the place of the bone golem in the room near the lava pool, and one as you get ready to go to the room with the letter puzzle type thing) and then the monsters in general get harder as well. so as long as your characters aren't immortal, you shouldn't really have that easy of a time going through the game. ^-^

soon, the world will be taken over by bunnies, so be nice to them!
Sailor Moon is the champion of love and justice, so no matter how many great weapons you have, you will still be defeated, because no matter how many times you kill her, she will always come back, so watch it!

It's up to you to, it's your game after all.
I also alter pc and npc's to increase my gaming pleasure.
If you want to change it, maybe I could give you some tips:
Perhaps you already use it but if you download Infinity Explorer you could alter the shapechangespell as well.
Just read the instructions and you can change the entire spell: the duration (like shapeshift: permanent), ratio, times a day etc.
Now, if you study the helpfile a bit, you can replace the wolfwere of shapechange into the werewolf of shapeshift. Just use the programme in combination with Shadow Keeper and you can create a new spell if you like (like: Improved Shapeshift or something)
Now, if you think the werewolf's a little too powerful: go to Shadowkeeper, extract the werewolf and alter its stats.
Rename it to whatever you like, and change the creature-name in the spell-menu of Infinity Explorer into the creaturename you just gave to your new pet. You can even alter the corresponding string to increase the realism.
Have fun, greetz Nite
