Edwin Can't Cast Spells Anymore!

Post by Jyrran »

Help!!

We had just finished all those Asylum tests and Edwin leveled up. So, being the good little gamer that I am, I checked it out. :)

Keep in mind that I've tweaked his abilities a bit with SK (he didn't need much, but I bumped his proficiencies up).

Before clicking on the level-up button, I clicked on the dual class button to see what that might yield. I didn't really think there'd be any value in dualing him, but I wanted to check it out for giggles. Naturally, seeing there was nothing of value there, I clicked Cancel and went to the level-up area.

Uh oh! :( His proficiencies needed to be reduced by 3 points. I didn't understand why, so I attempted to reduce them just to get past this, but clicking the minus (-) buttons didn't do anything. Since the ACCEPT button wasn't available, I hit the escape button and got back to his stats area.

Whew! I figured I could go into SK and retweak his proficiencies (knowing I could always reverse things later) to get past the -3 thing and get his level-up accepted (gotta love new spell slots!). :D

However, when I went back to the game I noticed that he no longer had the ability to cast spells!

Did I find a nasty hidden bug? Or did I get stupid? And is there anything I can do to correct it? {Problem is, I saved the bloody mistake. And, being compulsive, I cleared all the other auto-save and quick-save games before I quit.}

Thanks for your help...yet again!!

Ok, you screwed up with shadowkeeper
(always keep you're backup savegame)

Don't think I can help you easily, you could change edwin for another NPC,
or you could start a new game, take Edwin ASAP (or clua him in if that's possible -> anyone?) and copy his settings.

Good luck

maybe you could kill your edwin, CLUA in a new one, and set his XP, spellbook and everything else as u desire.
I dunno if it works, but try this:

take off all items u want to keep (except the amulet, the new one should have it too).

kick him out of party, "wait here".

kill him with ctrl-y.

get a new one: CLUAConsole:CreateCreature("EDWIN13") - this should get the one with highest base XP, there are also EDWIN7, EDWIN9, EDWIN11, EDWIN12, and EDWIN15 (dunno about the last one, he's level 13 as well, maybe that's for some other purpose).

talk to him, have him join, give him back his items and use SK to give him anything else, like spells and XP. I'm not sure if his quest is saved as local or global variable, maybe he will ask you to do it again. And stay away from the proficiencies, or at least don't change the amount! (did u want to give him grandmastery in something or what did u need that many for?)
Save the game before u do anything, and keep it as a backup in case anything goes wrong! Absolutely no guarantee on this ^^

Well, as it turns out, Edwin got himself disintegrated during a particularly wicked fight in the Underdark. So, the problem sort of resolved itself. But thanks much for the advice.

What's really strange is that several days later my group was trolling around in the Underdark and we happened to pass by the area where Edwin bit it. Lo and Behold, there's dear Edwin, disgruntled as ever, but clearly in good health and ready for battle!

Again, thanks for tolerating my mistakes. I'll take better care of my belongings...promise!
